Oh for pity's sake......

I am feeling..... annoyed.

I think I've figured out why.  I really hate double standards.

So where is all this coming from?  A long discussion on the nature of canon.  It started when I was talking to someone about a game they were in.  They mentioned a difficulty they were having and me being me, I mused that I could bring in someone for their character to play with.  Maybe.  I wasn't going to commit to anything without seeing the game and everything.

Anyhow, the other person has an 18 year old Miller Verse Dick Grayson.  I was thinking of bringing in Miller Verse Batman from the All-Star run.

I voiced how I hate DKSA and that I wouldn't consider it canon.  Why would it be?  For All-Star Batman it's a future that hasn't happened.

The other person informed me that okay, it would be considered an AU character, not a Miller Verse character.   Bare in mind that her character IS Miller Verse, but she told me that Dick wasn't going to go crazy.

Buh.....HUH?!

According to her (and I'm still not really understanding this) the personality Bats has in DKSA is where he HAS to end up, because it's canon.

I asked my mind was any more AU then hers and never got a satifactory answer...not one that made sense any way.  It upset me.  First because it felt like I was being dictated to and secondly because I used what she'd done with her character (reason that because Dick's in the game setting, not miller verse, things can play out differently) as the model of what I thought to do with mine.  But mine was some how AU when hers wasn't.  I didn't get it.

I still don't get it.  And it's leaving me feeling annoyed and pretty much thinking I will NEVER offer play a character so that someone else has someone to play with.  It's not worth the headache.
