Jing Chang puts on a bridal gown, startles the whole of Austria

After Jing Chang took 1st place on the first season of Super Idol, she released her debut album in May 2009. On the very first week of its release, the album topped a total of 9 charts. In just these short 2 years, her fanbase spreads over Hong Kong, Mainland China, America, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia etc.

In 2010, she also received Yahoo! Taiwan Asia Buzz Awards’ [Best Female Singer] and [Most Popular Female Artiste]. In 2011, she was the sole songwriter-singer among Global Mandarin Music Chart’s [Best Female Singer] nominees.

As for her last book [One Person’s Tokyo - Jing Chang 361 Degrees], it has sold around 50,000 copies in Asia alone. Therefore, KATE book publishers spent around 2 million TWD (~$70,000 USD) to send Jing to Europe, inviting her to write her second published work [Crash X Amadeus - Jing Chang’s Austria Prelude]. Besides sharing her journey and thoughts concerning songwriting, Jing also took this trip to the capital of classical music, Vienna, as an opportunity to follow in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s steps. Her beloved rock and the classic have collided and the resulting sparks have opened doors to another kind of symphony.

For her 2nd photobook, Jing Chang traveled for the very first time to Europe. But amidst her excitement during this trip, she faced a challenge - wearing a bridal gown for a rocker. Although Jing had worn dresses beforehand, this was her first ever wedding-themed photoshoot. This time, Jing agreed to wear a specially-designed “Jing-style” wedding dress. This suit-dress was completely sewn by hand while the price ranged around 100,000 TWD (~$340 USD).

As this was a dress that included pants, Jing expressed that one could appear handsome even in a wedding gown. Because of the gown’s long train, Jing had to especially take notice when she walked. She feared that she would fall and become a joke. In order to achieve the best conditions for the photoshoot, Jing started the day at 5 ‘o’ clock in the morning. With the 5° Celsius weather, she was shivering with goosebumps in anticipation for the rising sun. Jing, who was both cold and hungry, could only comfort herself. At least, this was an extra chance to lose weight and meet a future lover.

The sun finally appeared at noon. The final pictures have definitely overturned foreigners’ perceptions of the weak Asian girl. The [photographer] complimented them: “This is too much on the handsome beauty side.” Jing also felt that this was worth it.

She also commented: “Although Mozart interacted with royal folk since he was young, he still kept a childish and mischievous demeanor. During the lessons he taught, he would adjust the fee based on the student’s abilities to pay. Sometimes, Mozart would even teach for free. These qualities have increased my admiration for his humorous and romantic personality. I feel that this is the kind of attitude and manner an artist should have.”

Jing dreams of meeting Mozart one day in heaven. The question she would want to ask him: “Can you play a song for me?”

And then she would follow him non-stop so that they could collaborate on something involving both rock and classical music. That would be a dream to fulfill.

After Jing listened to Mozart’s composition [The Marriage of Figaro], she found her emotions swaying to one side. She felt that there are too many reasons to fall in love with someone. And this love has to occur at the right moment. Otherwise, it would easily disappear.

Before this photoshoot, Jing had gathered her courage to confess to someone. However, she was rejected by him; he said that he could only be her older brother. As a result, in this romantic European atmosphere, Jing had the rare opportunity of behaving like a “little woman.” She looked forward to a chance encounter with love.

And Jing expressed: “If I had to hold a wedding, I would hold a “Rocker’s” wedding, with smoky makeup and a black rocker suit. As for the location, I would choose to hold it in a church in Europe. That way, everyone can experience the peace and love. Furthermore, since this place is the capital of music, I feel that it matches me super well.”

However, as a rocker, Jing won’t be like others in throwing the bouquet. She’ll throw a guitar. As for sending guests off, Jing will gift them with picks. Staff workers joked that she could toss the 120,000 TWD worth electric guitar that fans had given her. Even those who didn’t want to get married would want that!
