HONG KONG: Hong Kong actress Kathy Chow has lashed out at middlemen in the entertainment industry who proposition artistes and ask them to go on 'dinner dates' with wealthy businessmen, reported Hong Kong media.
In a micro-blog post on Saturday, Chow recounted an incident where a man, who claimed to be a mover and shaker in the film industry, called her on the pretext of offering her a film role but actually wanted her to adhere to "the unwritten rule".
When reporters quizzed her about "the unwritten rule" she wrote about, Chow explained that the man wanted her to "entertain" a businessman and "keep the boss company".
"I felt very insulted and immediately scolded him. He then beat a hasty retreat," said Chow, adding that the people who did such things had a very warped way of thinking and could affect the younger generation.
The veteran actress said she decided to go public about this incident as she felt people needed to pay attention to this matter.
The 43-year-old also warned other artistes about this insidious threat in her micro-blog post.
"Working hard and being an upstanding person have been my principles since I entered the industry.
"I am strongly against such things (artistes being asked to 'entertain' businessmen), so I want to remind everyone to be on their guard if they get such calls," wrote Chow.
