TAIPEI: Hong Kong actress Isabella Leong, who broke up with Richard Li - the youngest son of Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka Shing - back in 2011, will play an artist in Taiwan director-actress Sylvia Chang's upcoming film "Nian Nian", reported Taiwan media.

It will be Leong's first film appearance since she quit showbiz almost six years ago, when she started dating Richard Li.

The 25-year-old actress will appear alongside Taiwan actors Joseph Chang and Lawrence Ko in the NT $80 million (S$3.4 million) film, which explores the relationship between three young people as they face trials and tribulations together.

Leong, who has three sons with Li, said she is "happy" to appear in Chang's film as "the script, the director, and the cast is good", during a media conference for the film in Taipei on Tuesday.

She appeared nervous and spoke little during the media conference, when reporters quizzed her on her kids, her past as well as what she plans to do next.

When asked if she intends to restart her acting career in Hong Kong after completing "Nian Nian", Leong said she will "take a break first, but will continue to look at scripts".

"Nian Nian" will go into production later this month and is expected to be released next year.
