After dating for seven years, Taiwanese singer-actor Vanness Wu and his Singaporean girlfriend Arissa Cheo have finally filed their Notice of Marriage in Singapore on the nation’s birthday on Aug 9.
Announcing the good news via social media yesterday, Vanness, who turned 35 last week, shared that he regards this marriage as a birthday present to himself. “I chose to break the news on Chinese Valentine’s Day because it’s a romantic day,” said the actor.
In his microblog post, Vanness attached a composite picture of the couple’s childhood photos. He wrote: “I did something impulsive! God bless us.”
His company has also released a statement, which read, “Vanness and Arissa would like to share their joy with all their friends, and they hope for everyone’s blessings.”
While speaking to reporters when he returned to Taiwan alone last night, he cheerily said that he “believes that his fans would congratulate him”.
When asked if it was a shotgun marriage, Vanness was taken aback and exclaimed, “No way, I’m a Christian! (Devout Christians practise sexual abstinence before marriage)”
Under the Matrimonial Law of Singapore, there is a 21-day waiting period after a couple has filed their Notice of Marriage with the Registry of Marriages (ROM). Hence, Vanness and Arissa will only receive their certification of marriage earliest Aug 30.
