There's nothing quite like having your idiocy pointed out to you with perfect clarity for a shock to the system. The line between ignorance, idiocy, and assholism is very thin, and I have been merrily crossing all three lines willy-nilly without realizing it. To those I have been an unintentional asshole to (several of you!): I am VERY sorry, and I will try to do better.
