Istanbul Connection

Hi Again!!!

What a superb time we had in Istanbul. I enjoyed the trip sooo much.

We visitied a lot of places and monumets. The one that impressed me more was Aya Sofia.

Amazing construction.... you have to see it for yourself to get an idea.

We also visited Topkapi palace, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Spices Bazaar and much more....

The Grand Bazaar was amazing also. There are around 4000 shops in there and you can go crazy. I bought a t-shirt with turkish flag and a Chess/Backgammon game. It's a delight to fight with the seller to get to a good price. You have to go there with money to buy things, if not it's a bit frustrating.

The city itself is lovely but I expected it be more kind of romantic. Anyway the sunsets are just spectacular and the light is soooo lovely I couldn't stop taking photos.
Here is Mar looking the sunset as we were in the boat to sail across the Bosphorus. Yes... I've been in Asia!!!

There are more than 1600 mosques in Istanbul. Here's one in the sunset. A tipical Istanbul image.

The food is amazing there. Very spicy and delicious. I'm currently missing it now. If only there was a good kebap place in town.

The people there are just lovely and they treat you very well. We did not have any problem there but a taxi driver applying the night tax at midday. But as we were 7 on the taxi we decided to pay and forget it.

We also bought some music from there. Some typical Derviçe music and some mixed music, you know turkish typical with chill out bases and the like. Nice.

There was a feeling that we weren't out of Spain in certain times because of the huge number of spanish people in Istanbul plus the fact that spanish was spoken in a lot of restaurants and shops. But a couple of friends went out of the tourist areas and discovered the real Istanbul. Far more garbage on the streets and a great difficulty to be understood.

The only let down was that as I was flying back I started to feel sick and I thought my ears would explode.... but you have read about it....

A tremendous time and a huge breath of fresh air for me and for Mar too. I recommend this city to anyone wishing to make a trip.

See you soon.
