Alphonse Elric loved his brother. Edward had been his big brother, best friend and playmate ever since he could remember, and nowadays, he was the only family Al had left. He was the one who Al could come to with any problems, who he could talk about anything and everything with and who would do anything at all for him.
Yes, Al loved his brother. However, Ed could still be horribly annoying sometimes.
Like now.
"- can you believe that man? Just springing that on me?"
"Niisan, what-"
"And threatening me with Armstrong just to make me go along with it!"
"What are you t-"
Edward was in full rant-at-Colonel-Mustang mode, completely ignoring his younger brother's attempts to interrupt. Al had managed to discover that Mustang was, in Ed's opinion, a bastard, smirking, useless, no-good arse who deserved to be drawn and quartered (preferably by Edward), as well as a lot of other things which he didn't think on too closely because Ed would kill him if he ever repeated them.
However, the exact reason why Ed was so upset had not been mentioned.
"This is obviously part of some stupid game or another of his. Well, I won't play it, I'm not a little kid anymore and-"
"NIISAN!"
Ed stopped, turned around, and blinked owlishly at Al. "What?"
"What are you talking about?"
Ed's face, which had before been an odd shade of maroon, darkened to purple. "The Colonel wants to adopt us."
Eh?
Ed gathered steam again. "And I mean, it's ridiculous! Impossible! It's... gah! He just can't! But no, he just sits there with his damnable smirk and-"
Adopt?
"-stupid smirking bastard sitting all high-and-mighty behind his desk, 'Ooh Fullmetal, you're too young to be out on your own,'"
Us?
"-the law's never given a shit about us before, why should it start now-"
Colonel Mustang?
"Um, Niisan?"
For the second time, Ed was interrupted in mid-tirade. "Yes, Al?"
"You do realise April first isn't until three months from now, right?"
