The Hunger Games

Definitely worth seeing. I can get behind this new phenomenon (even If I find the idea of merchandising something so clearly set against material consumerism and hoarding wealth to be ironic and off message), if only because it has such a strong female lead.

Seriously? It's the only movie in years to affect me enough to get me to cry at the death of a character. I wasn't that heartbroken when I read Rue's death in the book, even though she was one of my favourite characters, but in the film? I cried. It was a perfect scene and so, so beautiful.

Go see it. And read the books, of course. It's worth it. And Katniss is a brilliant role model for young girls. I'm still upset over Rue; I just want to hug her.

(also, what's with all that upset over the casting? That girl who played Rue was perfect for the role! The sweetest thing I've seen since kittens.)
