Just finished the newest addition to the Sherlock mythos.
Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, those men are brilliant. The reinvention of Irene Adler, Sherlock's understanding of the chemicals that make up the base human drives, the whole mystery and drama of it. Wonderfully done.
An issue with the previous series was in "A Study in Pink". You knew it was a cabby from the moment Sherlock started his musings in the street on the way to that Soho restaurant. Never mind if a viewer hasn't read the story, the wording gave it away. But this one... There were moments like it that just completely screwed over viewers. Primarily the "1895" bit.
A proper red herring in a Sherlock story is so nice to see.
And these guys really do know how to screw over fans and fan ideas. In the first five minutes, the show completely dashes every one of the fan theories that have become popular during the hiatus. The cliffhanger for "The Great Game" gets a nice little send off as they move on to the new stories.
Loved almost everything about it. And what I didn't was so small that it was hardly an interruption. Brilliant balance, brilliant adventure.
And Mrs. Hudson just really kicks ass.
