Prologue: Prisoner of Love
Chapter 1: A Little Too Not Over You

You have a way of coming easily to me
And when you take, you take the very best of me
So I start a fight cause I need to feel something
And you do what you want cause I'm not what you wanted

You put up walls and paint them all a shade of gray
And I stood there loving you and wished them all away
And you come away with a great little story
Of a mess of a dreamer with the nerve to adore you

It wasn't all that bad. Chinen didn't mind it at all. After all, you'd do anything for the one you loved, right? In Chinen's case, it was Daiki. He'd do anything for Daiki.

Every month, Chinen would have a special day assigned to give Daiki a gift, or do something special for the older boy at least. That aside, Chinen would sometimes give Daiki a gift randomly, just for the sake of it. Sometimes, he would also give Daiki food, a drink, lend him money--then won't let Daiki pay for it. When Daiki needs to buy something, but is too busy, Chinen would try and look for what Daiki needed. Occasionally, Chinen would ask Daiki for hugs, in which Daiki would give him, smiling. The only thing Daiki wouldn't let him do is sit on his lap because he finds it awkward since they were going out. Chinen didn't really mind that part.

Because Chinen...well, Chinen wasn't that good with expressing what he really feels. All he expresses well most of the time is his anger. Throwing random tantrums about the lowest things, pouting about absolutely nothing, and would glare at Daiki even though he wasn't really mad. He usually lets out his anger on Daiki for some reason. The truth is, he argues with Daiki to somewhat "test" if Daiki actually cared. Chinen needed to feel something.

Daiki...well, he just goes with it. He tries calming Chinen down all the time, trying to stop the younger from hitting and screaming at the other members. When on the verge of tears, Daiki would hug Chinen tightly, reminding the latter that he's always there for him.

One day in the dressing room, Daiki and Chinen were left by the other members to go to lunch. The two stayed behing for awhile, catching up on some work before joining the other members in the cafeteria.

"Why do you keep ignoring me?" Chinen asked, on the verge of tears.

Daiki sighed. "I'm sorry. It's just that I always say something that'll hurt you."

"I hurt you alot, too."

"It's okay. As long as it's you."

Chinen heard that perfectly well. But nevertheless, he still asked, "W-What?"

Daiki, not looking up from his work, smiled, shook his head, and answered, "Nothing."

Chinen's heart beat a little faster. He resisted a smile, and also continued doing his work.

At times, Daiki would feel down, and Chinen would try his very best attempts to make Daiki feel better--even just a little bit. It was hard. Daiki was really hard to please for some reason. Whenever Chinen felt down, Daiki would just talk to Chinen, and he'd feel better already knowing Daiki was there for him. But when it came to Daiki, it hurt Chinen to know that his efforts are a waste.

"My parents took away my precious manga, and anime DVDs!" Daiki whined, lowering his head.

"Ano...Don't worry. I'm sure they'll give it back." Chinen tried to comfort Daiki.

"Yeah," Daiki retorted. "When I'm 20!"

"Eh? That long? What happened anyway?"

"My report card came."

"Oooh." Chinen didn't know what to do or say anymore. "I'm sorry I'm not much help."

"It's okay," Daiki answered. Chinen felt punched. "At least you're there for me." That made him feel a little better. But not by a long shot. The younger boy forced a smile.

Later that day, JUMP had already finished their rehearsals and it was time to go home. Before taking off, Daiki handed Chinen, who was fixing his things on one side of their dressing room, a folded piece of paper. Daiki's face didn't have much of an expression so Chinen wasn't sure what was on it. He just took the paper, and told Daiki to take care. When Daiki already left, Chinen unfolded the paper and read the words Daiki wrote with his red pen.

Chii,

That's all it had to take to make Chinen sleep soundly that night--dreaming about no one other than Daiki.

After some more months together, there had been conflicts going on. Like what most relatonships normally go through, there had to be fights.

"Are you mad at me?" Chinen asked Daiki while they were walking home.

"No," Daiki answered simply. "Why would I?"

"I don't know. You tell me."

"I'm not, okay?" Daiki said straight-forwardly. "Why? Are you?"

"Do you think I would be asking that if I were?"

Daiki didn't answer.

They went home in silence.

Even after being hurt all the time, because Daiki always seems so distant and cold at times, Chinen still couldn't help but praise and fawn over Daiki. What can he do? He's in love.

"Sugoi, Dai-chan!"

"Eh?" Daiki didn't look up from the magazine he was reading.

Chinen sat on the chair beside him. "Your performance was great! You're so awesome!"

"Ah.." Daiki closed the magazine, and looked at Chinen, smiling. "Arigato ne."

Chinen couldn't help but smile, too. Daiki's smile...always made his day. He wanted Daiki to smile no matter what. But...he isn't the right person to make Daiki smile. All he does is the opposite, mostly. But remembering the times he knew he made Daiki smile, it gives him encouragement that he'll make "Dai-chan!"--yes, with an exclamation point--smile more often.

Then the next months flew by quickly, Chinen noticed. The boy also noticed how Daiki seems to be building up a wall between them now, like something was up. He couldn't help but feel nervous. Of course, they still acted pretty normal in front of other people. No one wold suspect about them being together. They act like they're only friends. But Chinen felt something odd.

It was the jimusho's Christmas party. Everyone attended "work" that day. Johnny had allowed the whole agency to have the party, too. Johnny, himself, even stayed for awhile before going home to rest. Him, especially, would be really tired, right? Managing all these young idols for years must be tiring.

Daiki was writing something on the dedication white board when Chinen spotted him.

"Dai-chan," Chinen began.

"Hm?" Daiki stopped writing, put the cap back on the marker, and looked at Chinen.

Shuffling a bit, Chinen pulled out something from his back pocket, and showed Daiki a small wood-like sign that's on a wooden stick. Daiki read what was written on it. I love you.

Daiki's lips formed a small smile, and he replied to it with, "Thanks."

Not really the reaction Chinen would've hoped, but nevertheless, he smiled sheepishly and turned back to watching the other members have fun. Ryosuke was eyeing the cake in the middle of the dressing room, as Yuto was cutting him a piece of it.

Suddenly, Chinen felt a pair of familiar arms wrap around his waist. He turned his head slightly, and Daiki rested his head on the younger's shoulder. Chinen tensed a bit, but everntually relaxed in Daiki's arms. The two of them watched from aside the other members' activities. They stayed like that for a few more moments before thinking of joining the other members.

They gave the idols time to rest after that. Their work shall resume January after their short break. After all, idols need rest, too. During the break, Chinen hung around with some of the other members, rarely Daiki since the latter would hang out with the rest of  BEST. Chinen missed Daiki.

Their Christmas break went by, and they met each other again at the start of January. They had a bunch of stories to tell each other. The closest group of friends in the agency met up before practices. On their break during rehearsal, Chinen bought Daiki a box of Pocky and tea. He asked Takaki to give it for him, though.

The whole JUMP met up in their dressing room. Chinen was sitting on the couch with Yabu, who were both chatting with Hikaru, Ryutaro and Yuto.  Daiki joined in the conversation after some time. When the conversation turned to a different topic, Daiki brought up the Pocky and tea part.

"Why did you give me?" Daiki asked Chinen. The others didn't seem to notice the other two boys talking among themselves already.

"Because I want to?" Chinen unsurely answered.

"Now I feel so guilty."

"Eh? Why?"

"Because..."

"You were going to..." They didn't need to say those words to understand.

Daiki nodded his head slowly.

"Ah..." Chinen felt hurt. "Well, go ahead then."

"What?"

"Do it."

"i didn't say anything," Daiki said defensively.

"You just said you were going to," Chinen retorted back.

"No. I didn't say anything."

"You were implying it." Chinen didn't want to argue anymore. It didn't change the fact that he already knew. "Okay. You know what? Nevermind."

Chinen avoided Daiki for the rest of the day. He was prepared, anyway. He just prepared himself even more, hoping that it wouldn't hurt that much.

It ended the next day.

Oh what a shame, what a rainy ending given to a perfect day
So Just walk away, no use defending words that you will never say
And now that I'm sitting here thinking it through
I've never been anywhere cold as you

You never did give a damn thing honey but I cried, cried for you
And I know you wouldn't have told nobody if I died, died for you, died for you
