It has been about a month since.
JUMP was in their dressing room, fooling around as always while waiting for them to be called for their photoshoot. Chinen was in a corner, playing a game with Inoo, Keito and Ryosuke. He looked up when he felt a tap on his shoulder. It was Daiki.
"Can we talk?" Chinen's heart beat faster than ever.
Nevertheless, Chinen stood up and followed Daiki to one end of the room, far enough for the other members not to hear. The two boys stood about a foot apart from each other, a moment of silence.
Chinen broke it. "Are you going to..." He already knew the answer. Daiki nodded. He was right.
"I'm sorry," Daiki said, looking up from the ground to face Chinen. "It's just that...well...I'm sorry." He waited for Chinen's reply.
"I just want to know," Chinen said. "Why?"
"It's because.." Daiki stammered a little.
Chinen sat on one of the plastic chairs. "You don't like me anymore?" Chinen still managed to smile.
"No! It's not like that!" Daiki tried to explain defensively. "It's just that...you always get mad, and you weren't really like that before! I blame myself."
"Didn't I tell you that before, not to blame yourself? I just have a lot of things on my mind."
"Sorry." Daiki looked down shamefully again.
Chinen laughed. "In any case, I already knew."
Daiki looked at Chinen once more, confusion etched on his features.
"I knew you were going to break up with me soon." Chinen kept on smiling. "Yeah. I'm that smart." Daiki looked a bit surprised, but was cut off from speaking when Chinen continued, "Do you like someone else?"
"No!" Daiki exclaimed. "There's no one."
"Ah. I see." Chinen kept on laughing.
"Eh? Why are you laughing?!"
Chinen contuned laughing. "I just remembered something funny. Sorry." Lies.
"Of all the times to remember..." Daiki gave an exasperated look.
Chinen giggled, then turned away. Daiki called to him nervously. "Ah! Are you mad?"
He turned back to face Daiki. "No." Chinen kept on smiling. Chinen wanted to beg, to plead for Daiki to stay with him, to tell Daiki that he'll change. It's a new year anyway, right? But he can't. He has way too much pride for someone so small.
"Can we..." Daiki tried to ask nervously. "..stay friends?"
Chinen nodded, a smile gracing his lips.
By this time, some of the other members already have an idea of what was going on. They avoided looking at the other two members on one corner, giving them a little privacy. Chinen noticed some of the members glance at them once in awhile, nervousness obvious on their faces.
"You can sit on my lap again," Daiki informed Chinen. When they got together, Chinen wasn't allowed to sit on Daiki's lap anymore. At first, Daiki complained that Chinen was too heavy, and also told the younger member that he was weak in the knees. Of course, Chinen didn't believe him. Later though, he admitted to only finding it awkward.
Smiling once more, Chinen said a low, "Thanks."
The two boys heard the manager call them, but they ignored it. Hikaru called out to them, "Ne! Let's go!" Chinen and Daiki turned to look at the other members and noticed Yabu nudging Hikaru, telling him to shut up. The other members went ahead outside.
"So..." Chinen began. "Is that it..?" Not really giving Daiki a chance to reply, he turned for the door.
"Eh! Are you mad?!"
Chinen faced Daiki again and gave out an exasperated sigh. "I told you, I'm not."
Daiki walked a bit closer to Chinen, opening his arms a bit. "Can we hug..?" Daiki asked. "..as friends..?"
That last part was like a stab to Chinen. He forced another smile and went into Daiki's arms. Daiki hugged Chinen. "Ouch," Chinen muttered when Daiki tightened a bit too much.
"Sorry," Daiki replied.
When the two members finally pulled apart, they joined the other eight members, who they know are only waiting outside the dressing room for them.
The day went by, and Chinen actually managed to smile like nothing was wrong, and laugh like everything's just perfect. The photoshoot ended and everyone said their goodbyes, and "see-you-tomorrows". Daiki waved and gave Chinen a small smile, while the younger member did the same. Probably knowing Chinen's condition, Ryutaro suddenly gave Chinen a small random hug just before leaving. When Daiki left, Chinen managed to tell Yabu parts of the story, and a thank you for making Hikaru shut it. Hikaru gave a small apology. Chinen smiled, nodded, and then went on his way. Normally, it went by like everyday. He didn't try to think about what happened. He got home, greeted his mom, and directly went upstairs to his room.
As he closed the door, and the minute he heard the click of the lock behind him, that's when, involuntarily, the tears started pouring.
Fake displays of strength and being greedy have become meaningless

.haaai~! tadaima~! :)) it's been pretty busy lately...i'm glad i could post again ne~! weeee~ anyway. so yeah. this is actually...erm...yeah. fuji_chan knows ne. X3 but anyway~! yeaaaah~! i made a fic again~! it didnt take me long though. took me about 30 mins or so before sleeping. o.o; havent slept well in days. i think i'm going to die soon.
