I spent this past weekend on the beaches of Rügen. They are not much like the beaches I have been to in the past, but the chalk cliffs are truly breathtaking. We left in the early morning on Saturday and were able to watch the sunset over the ocean from the beach where we camped for the evening. The "campfire traditions" that many of my friends here grew up with are quite different than camping with my family. Nonetheless, it was a well-deserved weekend away for all of us.
I did not come out unscathed, however. I regret to admit I managed to twist my ankle by slipping on some loose gravel while we were hiking down to the beach. I have it wrapped as a precaution more than anything else, but my trainers are fussing over it. The pain was gone by the next morning, so I do not believe it's worth the fuss.
The advertisements for Mizuno went into print in several magazines this week - the first that is distributed in Japan was published on Tuesday. My mother was so excited that she has apparently mailed a copy to me. She's also sending along some of my fishing tackle I'd left behind. Now that I know where to go to fish, I'd like to do more of that this summer.
Regardless, the summer is slipping by quickly. Soon it will be August and I will be back in Japan. The sports world is more or less put on hold during the Olympics, so there is no reason for me to remain here during that time.
