So, here it is, several weeks into the summer, and I haven't had much time yet to just relax. Go figure. First was sick for a couple of weeks. Ick. And, helping sis get her house ready to be sold. Spent a day just cleaning and catching up on laundry. Yesterday was my birthday though, and it was a very, very good day. It started with ice cream cake for breakfast, and just got better from there. Okay, really, truthfully, it started with cleaning out the extremely stinky kitty litter box, but we will ignore that for now. Today was very, very good too. :) And I came home with books, which are mostly not nursing school text books, and I just might be able to read some of them sometime soon. Yes, I am happy.
Also came home with a cute little chick that loves attention, and is making my smalls very happy, because they love giving it attention. It's living in the kitchen right now because I think it's too small to go out in the barn with the rest of the chickens just yet. Snowy and the cats think it's very interesting, but luckily, none of them can open up rabbit cages, and we're keeping a cover over it so the kitties don't scare it.
Spent most of last week working on sewing a prom dress for my oldest, who is graduating high school soon (which was why there was no time for stinky cat boxes beforehand). I think she picked out the most difficult pattern possible, not on purpose, but, just saying. There was much swearing and frustration. I was, well, cranky. I like sewing, but this was pressure sewing, and not for me (if it was my deadline, I wouldn't have been so stressed abotu getting it done), and so, it was a bit torturous. Can I just say I did NOT like sewing from this particular pattern! Who the heck writes the directions for these things anyway???? It's obviously a talent for the most gifted of sadists. Seriously though, many of the directions were not worded in a way to make any sense whatsoever.
It's a good thing I do have a little experience with these things or it would have been completely impossible, instead of nearly impossible. Oh, and it didn't help that sewing machine #3 died on the day of the prom, when I was trying desperately to finish the dress on time. Sewing machine #1 is missing the foot pedal, or it would work fine. -Sigh- And sewing machine #2, which is the one I thought I would be using, was missing the bobbin holder thingy. Of course, it had a different size bobbin holder thingy than the other two machines.
Now, normally, it would be no big deal, because I would have just gone and borrowed my sis's machine, but of course, that is in FL now, along with her. So, I had a little hysteria, and then went about locating another machine. Two of my neighbor's came through with machines, that well, sucked, but, at least they were working, and finally we had a prom dress that was finished enough for her to wear. Actually, one of the neighbors came over to help finish the dress, and without her, I don't think the dress would have been ready at all. It didn't come out quite the way I wanted to, but she went and had a good time, and that's what counts. Yay for neighbors with sewing skills!
Oddly enough, I want to do some more sewing. I think I'll get at least one machine working again first though. Or maybe do some hand sewing. I like hand sewing. It's simple, straightforward, and it never jams up on you. :)
