Well, it's early Monday morning and I'm in denial that I have to be at work in about 2 hours. I really do hate Mondays, plus since I skipped my last French class, I can't remember if the test was moved to Wednesday or if it's later this afternoon. Oh joy... that'll be just what I need a surprise French test!
I had a good weekend, and actually didn't sleep most of it away. My mom and sisters visited and then left on Saturday. I decided I'd been a little remiss in my movie viewing and went and watched some new films. I saw "
The Other Boleyn Girl" and "
10,000 BC". It was really quite odd because I was really excited about the first and quite wary about the second, but after seeing them both I felt completely different.
"The Other Boleyn Girl" (which is based on Philippa Gregory's novel) was interesting, but very different from the book. It started differently and spent way too much time on Henry VIII actually meeting Mary and Anne Boleyn and then, well, it was just different! And I didn't really like it because it was different from the book! I went to see it because I enjoyed the novel (just like how so many of us watch Harry Potter because we loved the books), but when they change the movie so much from the novel, I always wonder why they even bothered "basing" it on the novel! Regardless, I was disappointed and not terribly impressed. On a high note, most of the costumes were incredibly accurate (except for the first part of the film and these ridiculously small headdresses!) unlike Showtime's "The Tudors" which has some of the most inaccurate costuming I've ever seen! Not, mind you, that this has stopped me from watching! :) Unlike "The Other Boleyn Girl", "The Tudors" doesn't shy away from sex - I realize the movie was PG-13 but seriously, Titanic had more going on in a PG-13 rating... and that was over 10 years ago!
The second movie, "10,000 BC" was not as terrible as I thought it would be. Being a history major, I was somewhat horrified by the image of giant limestone, gold-tipped pyramids being built in 10,000 BC when the trailer first appeared. And for anyone wondering - no, there was absolutely no one building pyramids until the ancient Egyptians in about 4500 BC. Regardless of this and several other blatant historical inaccuracies, the movie moved along steadily and had a decent story line - guy falls for girl, girl gets kidnapped, guy eventually rescues girl after many conflicts, happily ever after - oh, and the introduction of agriculture to said guy and girl. I was happy they used different languages in the movie and that they didn't make the characters a bunch of dumb cavemen. I would never give this movie 5 stars, but if you're looking for a great action-adventure film with some awesome CGI prehistoric animals, this is the right film for you. And I was totally at the edge of my seat during that "veloso-raptor type birds chasing everyone" scene! Those things were scary!
I suppose I've put off getting ready for work long enough. Anyway, I have to get there early so I can leave a little early and check on that whole French test thing. I seriously hope that thing's on Wednesday...
