Jul 11, 2009 10:52

A little girl crouched, staring intently at the ground.  She wiped her purple hands on her new skirt and immediately returned to her work.  The steady scraping of the chalk blended with the sounds of morning, like a songbird who had awoken with a scratchy throat.

This made me smile, especially when I read the last line. I could also feel the little girl's anguish when her wish didn't come true.

A lovely piece!

Good luck!

Gee, and it made me cry. Cruel little boys should be fed to the grapnor, or just let UV bite them. ;-)

That last line is just wonderful, "the look of faraway castles," what an amazing phrase!

You kept me guessing until the end which is great. I loved this and identified with this little girl, for I was one who checked the back of closets just to make sure, in case there might be another world back there (a la Narnia.)

The sweet faith of children.

Great job, obviously many like it by the looks of the poles. Where do you get your great ideas? I thought it was a VERY creative take on the prompt..and I wrote 4 different entries (looks like I should have entered a different one, oh well.)

Really, a great idea I never would have thought of. Keep writing, I wonder what you will come up with next?:)

Thank you very much :) Childlike faith and innocence is something I write about a lot, because it seems like something pure and magical in a world where magic and purity are fast disappearing. Usually when I start writing for a topic here, what I write is completely different than anything I though of during the week. It's like in order to have the best ideas, I have to write them out.

Thanks for reading and commenting. I'm glad you liked it. :)
