the biggest reason why my mom wanted me to move to the states was for my own safety. she was terrified of the crime in manila, how dangerous it is to drive alone at night, or to walk alone anywhere at all, etc. I believed what she believed and so the states sort of became a safe haven for me where i can drive home alone at night alone at whatever ( Read more... )

Well, I was just on a similar topicin my LJ. It is bad here sometimes,but really the most we can ever do is use common sense and protect ourselves.

When I was in Texas for 3 weeks I saw 3 arrests! Dude.

I've been commuting all over Manila for years now, commuting, not driving, and haven't seen one. Neither have I witnessed any robberies. (Well, somepne tried to slash my bag once, but didn't take anything. I didn't see it happen.) I don't think it means they're less common, but I do believe that the US being a lot safer isn't entirely true either.

But common sense goes a long way, wherever you are. Be careful, and come back soon!

I think it's because we don't get down and dirty in the streets of Manila (come on, Alabangshire?). I haven't ever seen a crime in progress. I always hear about them though. I think as long as you're in a big city, it's always unsafe no matter what country it's in.
