I just followed your BF's comments to this entry. It is very well written & I enjoyed reading it. It appears that you prefer traditional, well-established gender roles. Nothing wrong with that at all.
The "Real Man" concept is false, and frankly, offensive... as if the only men who were worthy of being deemed "Real" are those who happen to fall in line with your own expectations of what they should be. Heaven forbid if I tried to define what a "Real Woman" was in today's rapidly-evolving culture. Is it even possible?
This isn't a competition. You like what you like, and I applaud you for knowing what that is. I only hope that you understand that there are others, both male and female alike, who are quite happy in that "blurry wasteland" where the traditional roles do not apply. They are also equally "Real". :)

Before I forget to do so, thank you for taking a moment to comment in my journal - i don't often get visitors! I also appreciate your criticism and I'd just like to perhaps add a bit to my "rant", as it were, and please be tolerant of my parenthetical asides - i'm very into parenthesis of late!! hee

What i can't stand are the frou-frou boys who mince around like they're in a real-life dolce and gabbana/versace ad, adrogenous to a point where they're just not attractive as either gender, hawking products that only a complete narcissist would bother indulging in. its one thing to look the part on occasion, its another to invest $1,000s in being that way to meet a perceived societal standard of non-testosterone-endowded

Thanks for the excellent reply. It appears our opinions are more alike than different. Isn't it strange that our culture has a collective (and stereotypical) idea of what a "Real Man" should be, but no such description exists for a woman? I'm not even going to TRY to define what/who a "Real Woman" should be... only what I value in a person, just as you have outlined for the type of men you like.
I could also do without the Ecuadorian Oyster Mousse under-eye cremes and such. Most of it isn't necessary to look fantabulous. A little attention to detail is usually enough to do the trick.
