Crowley personally instructed McMurtry to give "Signs" of the appropriate M.O.E. degrees prior to the performance of Liber Resh (footnote in Book IV). Moreover, one of the requirements for having an O.T.O. Profess House is that Liber Resh is punctually performed by the houses' inhabitants (which means that Crowley expected O.T.O. members to know

I would tend to agree.
but it has to come from the top.
I think it has. To quote the G.M.:
"Our Thelema is that of the Book of the Law and the writings of Aleister Crowley-the Master Therion, the Prophet of the Aeon of Horus.
This is what we are about, and this is what we are-our guide is the Book of the Law, and our Law is “Do What Thou Wilt.”
Despite all our individual differences of manner, opinion, preference, interest, and enthusiasm, these are things on which we must agree."
Emphasis mine.
I don't know how more fucking clear the G.M. has to be.
The writings of A.C. (whom Sabazius identifies with 666) are imperative to this process - and (believe it or not) that includes practices such as Liber Resh.
If people in positions of authority under the G.M. are willfully ignoring these writings by, for example:
1. Appealing to "individualism" (nevermind that "Self" in the truest sense of the word doesn't come into play until the attainment of the 5=6)
2. Applying a definition of Thelema that amounts to an amorphous "we're doing our will" (see pt.1)
3. Giving ear to -and hence credence - to this and similar rot by people under their purview (see pt. 1)
- then they're part of the problem.
If the masters are not invested in the practices, it is unlikely the local members will be.
Exactly. The Masters of a Body serve as an example whether they choose to consciously and willingly acknowledge this or no.
If a body master eschews the practices advocated by A.C. - outside of what the Order expects of him/her in order for their body to exist - and is obviously more interested and involved with other things, then that's going to be reflected in the membership.
I think many people come into the order with the best of intentions , and then model themselves on the existing behavior which is sometimes less than optimal.
Bingo.
If an authority ignores and even dismisses the practices put forward by A.C., then its hardly surprising when a person under such an authority (for example) bellyaches online about Liber Resh because they're incapable of keeping a regular sleep schedule.
The number of order members that sat it out and looked askance at us saddened me.
I understand what you mean as I've been there and have written about this myself. On the other hand, its going to be hilarious when we do get a Profess House and a good number of people haven't the foggiest idea on how to perform Liber Resh...
