Let me say right off the bat, that I loved this episode.
Alright, so it has to be said: god damn was Sam hot in this. So hot that I had to screencap it.
YUM. I have been looking forward to the pull-ups scene since they first showed a glimpse of it in the season 6 promo, and I'm telling you, that scene did not let me down. And of course there is the fact that it came right after this scene:
Shirtless Dean! Focusing on his back/shoulders! Can I say it again? YUM.
So. Yes. THANK YOU FOR THE FANSERVICE. IT WAS MUCH APPRECIATED.
Anyway, back to the ep.
The hooker thing threw me off a bit. Sex without any kind of attachment what so ever, Sam? Whatever happened to "I don't pay, Dean." Man have you changed. Change that is also shown in his lack of caring about the kid, the way he pretty much blew Dean off over the phone, the single mindedness with which he focused on the hunt... The scene where he was working out reminded me of the montage in Mystery Spot, with his OCD Super!Hunter tendencies, so yeah, I think it's obvious there is something seriously wrong with him.
And I gotta say, I'm kind of loving it. I mean, it's killing me that Sam and Dean aren't quite on good terms yet, but Sam's actions have got so curious as to what happened in hell. When Dean came back we might not have known exactly what happened, but we knew he remembered, got glimpses of how terrifying it was through his eye-focused flash backs, we knew he wasn't dealing well. With Sam we're getting nothing here. And the mystery of it has pretty much got me hooked.
I loved the plot in this episode. I mean, I don't think the fight scenes were that great, and it ended pretty calmly, but I love the whole angel civil war thing. I'm glad that averting the apocalypse and changing everything the angels knew was supposed to happen had actual consequences, and that Castiel's actions--defying heaven and then coming back when all was finished--had consequences to. He was, after all, a part of Team Free Will, and free will was something only angels who fell had, but he changed that, didn't he? I really hope this season explores what happens on earth because the host of heaven is fighting a war between themselves. That should prove interesting.
Oh, and I just loved the scene where Castiel showed up. Dean's face when he was praying was adorable, I love the one eye squint thing he did.
So cute! And Sam--Sam was just so pretty in this scene as well. I'm usually all about Jensen when it comes to the looks department, but man was Jared looking good in this ep.
His hair looked good in this scene! That doesn't happen very often!
I loved Cas in this scene too, or rather, the whole episode. I like it when he's being angel-y and frustrated with the humans, and I especially liked the tension between him and Sam. Though, it was certainly a change from "Sam is my friend," from last season. Hm. Maybe the tension is because he doesn't know how Sam came back, so he's suspicious of him. In any case, I love it when Sam and Cas interact (it doesn't happen enough, it's always Dean and Cas) so I'm hoping for more of it.
So yeah, this episode pretty much got me excited about the season in a way the first two failed to do, and the preview of the next few episodes look great too. (Truth spell? Yay for fanfiction tropes!) I thought the pacing was better, the plot more interesting (not to mention more revealing) and had some good brotherly moments. ("Were you uh, were you racing me?" "No. I was kicking your ass." "Very mature." :D ) This ep was a definite win in my book. :D
Oh! And I totally called what happened to Sam's car. As soon as Castiel went through the window, I was all "They're going to land on Sam's car." And I was right. :D
And, haha, Dean's reaction. "Okay: silver lining." Oh, Dean. You just want your brother back and close by, like he's supposed to be. &hearts
