most of you guys don't have to deal with this, not yet anyway.
my dog has a partial tear of a ligament in his back left leg, and a complete tear in the back right. the only fix for a torn ligament, apparently, is surgery. i actually questioned the necessity of the surgery after talking to the specialist and finding out how much it was going to cost

Personally if I was you, or if my dog was hurt like this the money wouldn't matter. My dog have given me such a priceless gift. Joy and uncondtional love. No matter how bad the day was she is always at the door to greet me and make me feel better. I have learned things from her that I couldn't possibly learn from a human. She is above all my friend and I love her dearly.
That being said I knew when we got her that it was my responsibilty to fulfil my end of the deal and make good on my responsibity to her. 3,000 a leg is pricy but I assume you can do payments right?
Its different when you don't fix a swimming pool, a car, or a dishwasher because you can't afford it. But Riley is a living being with emotions, and feelings who will suffer if not taken care of. Not having the surgery will cause him lots of pain the older he gets. Correcting it now means he can live a long healthy life. Most dogs live an average of 12-15 years Some even longer.
I girl in my minpin lj community had a similar situation and aked people to donate to a pay pal account. For their donations people would get updates on his recover and cute pics of him. I donate 10 bucks, some donated 5. Others even donated 20. She ended up raising half the money just by that. So where there is a will there is a way.
Please don't give up on Riley.

as for payments, we couldn't qualify for a plan because of my outstanding debt...the condo, $50k in student loans, braces...it's never-ending. luckily i have a credit card with my bank at 8% interest. my hope is that we can get it paid off before the next surgery.
i just see how much pain he's in, it makes me feel shitty knowing that he'll be going through this again in 3 months...especially because he doesn't know it yet.
