Kyuhyun is amazing and he takes care of me and he’s not hard to love. So yeah, I am with Kyuhyun.

He’s not hard to love.

Love.

I am with Kyuhyun.

She’s with Kyuhyun.

Donghae groaned loudly, which sounded like a growl, as he got up from his comfortable position on the bed. Those words had been plaguing him since the previous week that he had overheard Jooyeon saying them to their friends. It hurt hearing it the first time. Having it reverberating in his head over and over again was just plain torture. He muttered a couple of obscenities as he got up to wash his face in the bathroom, hoping that it would wash away the tormenting thoughts as well.

“What’s with you?” Heechul asked as Donghae stepped out of the bathroom. He was seated on the floor, a couple of feet away from Donghae’s bed. His eyes was trained on the TV screen in front of him, biting his lip as he continuously pressed a button on the game controller he had in his hands.

Hankyung was seated beside him, playing the game as well. Meanwhile, Kangin half watched the game, being more concentrated on his cell phone, where his girlfriend was sending him text messages. On the other side of the room, Shindong raided the mini refrigerator.

“Yeah, what’s with you?” Hyukjae wanted to know, sitting up from the bed as well.

Donghae ignored their questions, walking towards the window beside his bed. He just stared out for a while, thinking. Suddenly, he blurted out, “Will Jooyeon ever talk to me again? Will things ever go back to the way it was before? Could she ever…No, she wouldn’t. She probably hates me. Besides, she’s with Kyuhyun now,” he rambled to himself. “She said so herself.”

Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing. Kangin and Shindong had their eyebrows raised at him. Heechul even paused his and Hankyung’s game to turn to look at him or more like make a face at him. Hyukjae, meanwhile, was frowning.

“You’re delusional,” Heechul was the first to comment.

“What?” Donghae asked, coming out of his reverie, not realizing that he had spoken his thoughts out loud. “What did you say, hyung?”

Heechul exchanged a look with Hankyung, who looked like he wanted to burst out in laughter right then and there.

They had all seen the change in Donghae ever since the incident during Heechul’s party. They had seen how he secluded himself from them and they had allowed it because that’s how Donghae was. Whenever something was bothering him or when he thought he bothered people, he stayed away for a while. But he always came back. After a couple of days, he would start hanging out with them again and things would be back to normal. But with the incident with Jooyeon, things never quite got back to normal. Sure, Donghae was already hanging out with them again, but things weren’t quite the same. He was always quiet, as if always thinking to himself and he never really went out with them anymore. And he never really talked to Jooyeon again, never made things right with her.

“You’re the one who wouldn’t talk to her, Hae,” Hankyung began, speaking up before Heechul could say another thing bordering on insulting. “She’s just… letting you not speak to her. But those things have consequences. She’s not going to wait for you forever.”

Donghae blinked as he stared at him, then glanced at Hyukjae, who was sitting up on the bed. His best friend’s gaze told him that everything Hankyung said was true, that it was what he had allowed to happen.

“So, granted that Jooyeon is with Kyuhyun,” Heechul remarked, taking charge of the conversation once more. He raised an eyebrow towards Donghae, who finally looked at him. “What are you going to do about it?”

“Have you guys seen Kyuhyun?”

Taeyeon, Tiffany, Siwon and Kangin looked up at the worried tone in Jooyeon’s voice. Jooyeon looked like she always did, ever since after the incident. Her hair fell beautifully to her back, only tucked behind her ears and her bangs sweeping her forehead. She had stopped wearing it up or tying it as she had only done so because of Jungsoo’s requests. She also looked much happier than she had been, even before when she was still new to Neulparan. But, at that moment, she didn’t look happy. If anything, she looked very much troubled.

The four occupants of the table exchanged glances.

“I haven’t seen him,” Siwon supplied, turning to look at Kangin, who also shook his head.

“Maybe he’s with Hyuk or Heechul?” Kangin suggested.

“Didn’t he pick you up for school this morning?” Taeyeon reminded her.

Jooyeon shook her head. “I walked by myself,” she answered, turning to glance around the cafeteria.

“Why didn't you tell me he wasn’t picking you up?” Taeyeon chided her. “We could have waited for you.” Siwon and Taeyeon usually left the house earlier than Jooyeon and Kyuhyun did because Kyuhyun always took longer to get to their house.

“I didn’t know he wasn’t going to come,” Jooyeon replied, facing them again. “And I haven’t been able to see him or talk to him the whole weekend. I’m just worried. It’s never taken this long for us to speak to each other.”

There was a nagging feeling in the pit of Jooyeon’s stomach. After they had stayed a while at the airport that evening, Kyuhyun brought her home. The car ride was quiet and not in the usual comfortable way between them. As was habitual, he walked her to the door when they reached the house and they talked for a bit. But when she had tilted her face up to receive the kiss he always gave her before he left, she merely got a smile from him. Then he told her the most surprisingly and possibly most hurtful thing he’s ever said to her: It’s been fun. And he walked away, driving away before she could even get inside the house.

“There he is,” Tiffany suddenly called out. “Oh,” she then hesitated when she got a good look. “But… that can’t be him.”

Jooyeon couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She had known how Kyuhyun was before they had met, what kind of guy he was. She knew his past. But she also knew how much he had changed. She, like everyone else, was a witness to that. But this Kyuhyun, the one who was standing in the middle of the cafeteria was like seeing a throwback of what he used to be. He was passionately kissing some girl for the whole school to see.

Jooyeon immediately sat down on the empty space beside Siwon. Almost instantly, she felt the eyes of the other students on her. She was sure that everyone was asking the same question in her heads. Why was Kyuhyun kissing someone who wasn’t Jooyeon?

“There’s got to be an explanation for this,” Taeyeon spoke up uncertainly.

“What do you think you’re doing?!”

Kyuhyun pushed himself off from where he was leaning on the lockers, chatting with the girl he was kissing on the cafeteria the other day. The girl’s eyes widened as she saw who it was that had interrupted them.

“Eunhye,” she cried out, pushing herself off of the lockers as well and taking a step away from Kyuhyun.

Eunhye glared at the girl, who cowered in fear, then turned her fierce eyes at Kyuhyun, who merely smirked.

“Are you jealous, Eunhye?” Kyuhyun snickered. “We can go out tonight if you wish.” He ignored the surprised look that the other girl shot towards him. She frowned for a second then left in a huff.

Eunhye stared at him in disbelief. “What’s wrong with you?”

“Nothing,” he responded, smirking. “Everything’s just peachy. But something seems to have your panties in a twist.”

“Are you forgetting Jooyeon?” she reminded him. She remembered the things she had told Jooyeon in the past in a time when she had been misinformed, about her going after Kyuhyun. But from what she had seen, he had always been the one going after her. And she had seen with her own eyes how Kyuhyun had transformed from being a player to being a one-girl man.

“Who?” he asked, looking away, the smirk disappearing from his face.

Eunhye was never Jooyeon’s biggest fan. She hated the girl with a passion because she could see how much she affected the people around her, how much she was so loved by everyone and how much Hyukjae fawned over her. But, after everything that had happened, after what she did, she had come to experience the reason why everyone loved the girl and why everyone wanted so much to protect her. She was pure, a person with a big heart and, despite the imperfections, she had a big heart. And knowing this, she couldn’t bear to see Kyuhyun do this to her.

“Cho Kyuhyun, you’re-.”

“Everything okay here?” Heechul sided up to Eunhye, lightly putting an arm around her.

“Oppa, I was just-,” she started to defend herself. Heechul merely gave her arm a gentle squeeze and it was enough for her to stop talking. She rolled her eyes at Kyuhyun one last time then walked away.

“Don’t tell me you’re mad like she is,” Kyuhyun spoke up after seeing the way Heechul was looking at him. “I didn’t even do anything to her and she comes here and-.”

“I’m not,” Heechul interrupted his rambling. “Mad at you, I mean.” Kyuhyun gave him a grateful look. “But I am disappointed,” he clarified. Kyuhyun looked away. “If you think for a second that what you’re doing is something to be proud of, that it’s something we, your friends, are condoning, then you’re wrong.”

“I’m not doing anything wrong,” Kyuhyun muttered, suddenly finding the plain white tiles of the school floor interesting.

“Bullshit, Kyuhyun,” Heechul swore.

Kyuhyun raised his eyes towards his hyung once more, surprised at his swearing. In all the years that they had known each other, he had never so much as said anything remotely close to a swear word. It only meant that he was very upset.

“You know exactly what you’re doing wrong,” Heechul continued with a forceful voice. “You’re hurting her. Is that really what you want to do?”

Kyuhyun lifted his face up, looking defiant as he looked at his hyung. “Yes,” he spat. “That’s exactly what I want to do. I want to hurt her.”

Jooyeon bit her lip as she watched him walk out of the school building and into the quad. She had been debating for quite some time, for the past couple of days, as to when she should approach him and finally talk to him again (or get him to talk to her). But she figured that if she wasn’t going to do it now, she would probably never get to do it at all.

Taking a deep breath, she took a step forward to approach him when a hand on her arm stopped her.

“Don’t.”

“Donghae oppa,” Jooyeon cried out in surprise. She then glanced at Kyuhyun, who was talking to a couple of girls. “I was just-.”

“You shouldn’t have to be the one to approach him,” Donghae said, cutting her off. “If he wants to talk to you, he should be the one to go to you. You should never have to be the one to go to him and apologize, like I know you’re planning to.”

She removed her arm from his grasp. “I don’t care,” she retorted. “I’m going to go to him and talk to him and apologize if I have to. Just because he’s upset or just because he’s avoiding me, doesn’t mean I have to allow it. I’m his girlfriend.”

This snapped Donghae to attention and his anger rose. “Oh really? It doesn’t seem like it to me. If you were his girlfriend, he wouldn’t be going out with other girls and kissing them. He wouldn’t be hurting you like this.”

It took Jooyeon a couple of seconds to respond as his words slammed into her. “What ever happened to you?” she then wondered aloud, looking at him with hurt in her eyes. “You used to be so different, so caring and so sweet. Where did that person go?” He merely looked away, bearing his gaze on the concrete floor. She shook her head and turned her attention back to Kyuhyun, who had just begun to walk away. “I know he cares about me. There’s a reason why he’s acting like this. And I’m going to find out what it is because I care about him, too.”

As she started to walk away, he was unable to stop himself from having the last word. “He doesn’t deserve you caring for him. He doesn’t deserve anything from you,” he insisted.

“You can’t say that about him,” she pronounced, turning to him once more. “Because you deserve even less from me.”

“Will you stop following me?”

Jooyeon stopped in her tracks as Kyuhyun suddenly swiveled around to face her. He raised an eyebrow when she opened her mouth, suddenly at a loss for words.

“Is there a reason why you’ve been following me around?” Kyuhyun pressed.

“Yes, because there’s obviously something you’re not telling me,” Jooyeon answered in a straightforward manner. “Like why you’ve been avoiding me these past few days.”

“I’ve been busy,” he told her. “I didn’t know I had to report to you everyday.”

“Why are you being like this?” she earnestly asked him, ignoring the sting of his words. “I don’t understand why you’re saying these things and not talking to me. Please make me understand.”

Kyuhyun didn’t say anything.

Jooyeon just looked at him. His gaze was trained at something behind her back. His hands were fisted tightly. She wondered what was going on inside his head. She wondered what made him suddenly act like this, so distant and so unfeeling. In all the time she had known him, he never gave her an opportunity to not like him, except for their first meeting. She almost smiled as she remembered how they annoyed each other back then.

“We haven’t played Starcraft yet,” he suddenly declared, snapping her back to reality.

“What?” she asked, confused.

“We’ve never played against each other,” he repeated, finally looking at her. “Let’s do that now.”

“I don’t think this is a good time to-,” she started to say.

“You wanted to spend some time together,” he reminded her. “Here’s your chance.” He offered her his hand.

Without a second thought, Jooyeon placed her hand in his.

GameKyu: here’s my favor

Joo917: fine what is it?

GameKyu: break up with me

Joo917: no

GameKyu: you’ve lost and that’s the favor

Joo917: NO

GameKyu: fine, i’m breaking up with you

Joo917: don’t be childish, Kyuhyun

Joo917: don’t do this here!

GameKyu: don’t you dare stand up and go to me!!!

GameKyu: SIT DOWN

Joo917: then stop talking about nonsense

GameKyu: you know it’s not nonsense

GameKyu: be with him

GameKyu: you deserve to be happy

GameKyu: stop settling for anything less

Joo917: i am not settling

Joo917: i am happy with you

Joo917: so stop this!

Joo917: i am not going to do what you’re telling me

Joo917: we are going to talk about this properly later, face to face
