“Jooyeon-ah!” Kangin greeted, his voice echoing across the quad. He rushed towards her, putting an arm around her.
“Oppa,” Jooyeon responded, chuckling.
“We haven’t seen you the whole weekend,” Shindong whined.
“Where have you been?” Heechul questioned.
“Didn’t Hyukjae oppa tell you?” she asked, glancing at him, who was busy writing something in his notebook, while buried in music through his big earphones.
“He never tells us anything,” Hankyung said.
Jooyeon sat down beside Hyukjae and tapped his shoulder. “Oh, Jooyeon,” Hyukjae said, removing his earphones. He grinned at her. “Did you just get here?”
“Yeah,” she said. “Taeyeon went to class already.” She looked around. “Where’s Donghae oppa?”
“He’s coming already,” Hyukjae said, putting his stuff in his bag. “He just picked Mira up.”
“Mira?” Jooyeon repeated. Hyukjae nodded. “Jung Mira?” she asked again.
“You know her?” Hyukjae asked.
Who didn’t know Jung Mira? She was one of the queenkas of Neulparan. She was a cheerleader, just like Eunhye. Pretty, fair, sexy are just some of the adjectives used to describe her. Some say that she was pretty nice, too. Even Taeyeon was sort of friends with her.
Jooyeon had met Mira by her locker a couple of weeks back. Apparently, their lockers were right beside each other. She was just putting her books back in her locker when Eunhye arrived and told her off for not following through with their deal to stay away from Hyukjae and Donghae. Mira, who was fixing something in her locker, overheard this and, without hesitation, told Eunhye to stop bullying her. Eunhye had huffily walked away with her posse. Mira had smiled at her and told her to ignore Eunhye. She said that she was just being jealous of her friendship with the boys.
“Ya! Jooyeon-ah!” Heechul was waving his hand in front of her face.
Jooyeon snapped out of her thoughts. “Oh oppa,” she said, looking at him. “Sorry, what were you saying?”
“Aish this girl,” Heechul said. “Are you going to class or what? The bell already rang.”
“Oh,” she said, standing up and hurrying over to where Hyukjae was waiting for her. Heechul shook his head and walked to his class.
“You alright?” Hyukjae asked her curiously.
“Yes, oppa,” she said.
“But you haven’t been listening to me all morning,” he told her.
“I was,” she lied, trying hard to remember what it was that he was talking to her about.
“What was it I was talking about then?” he inquired knowingly, stopping to look at her and wait for her answer. He chuckled when she didn’t say anything. Ruffling her hair, he said, “It’s alright.”
During lunch, everyone was there, except Siwon, Kyuhyun and Donghae. The boys grabbed at the lunch box that Taeyeon prepared, making her laugh. She then turned to Jooyeon, who was looking around.
“Are you alright?” Taeyeon asked, glancing around as well, wondering what she was looking for.
“Uh yes,” Jooyeon said, facing her food and starting to eat.
“Taengoo, where’s Siwon?” Kangin asked.
Taeyeon smiled somewhat uncomfortably. “He’s with his teammates, I think,” she said.
“You’re not sure?” Hankyung asked, surprised. The boys gave each other looks.
Taeyeon merely shrugged. “Shouldn’t you be looking for Tiffany?” she asked Kangin teasingly. Kangin turned red and went back to his food. Tiffany had some research to do, which was why she wasn’t there. “Jooyeon, eat something, will you?” She put some Kimbap on her plate.
Just then, Donghae entered the cafeteria with Mira. Mira was holding on to his arm and they were animatedly talking to each other. She didn’t think she’d seen him smile so brightly before.
“Everything okay with you?” Hyukjae asked, nudging Jooyeon lightly.
“I’m fine,” Jooyeon said at once, looking away. “I just keep thinking about homework.” She gave him a forced smile and tried eating.

“What’s wrong with her?” Kangin asked Hyukjae. They were walking behind Jooyeon and Tiffany, who they just fetched from class.
Hyukjae merely shrugged. “She’s been like this for days. I’ve gotten tired of asking.”
Meanwhile, Tiffany was asking Jooyeon the same question.
“I’m fine,” Jooyeon answered with a chuckle. “Hey, do you want to go to the mall later?”
Tiffany smiled widely. “Shopping?” she asked. Jooyeon laughed and nodded. “But you don’t like shopping,” Tiffany remembered, frowning. “Really, what’s wrong, Jooyeon?”
Jooyeon laughed again. “Nothing. Let’s ask Taeyeon to go with us.”
“Taeyeon-ah!” Tiffany called when they reached the parking lot.
“What’s up?” Taeyeon asked.
“Jooyeon wants to go shopping,” Tiffany told her happily.
Taeyeon looked at Jooyeon, surprised. “Really? Why?”
Jooyeon shrugged. “I just want to. I want to spend some time with my girl friends.”
“Aigoo,” Taeyeon said, putting an arm around her best friend and Tiffany. “Let’s go then.”
“Where are you guys going?” Hyukjae called after them.
“Shopping!” the three girls chorused.
“We’ll go with you,” Kangin said, hurrying after them, pulling Hyukjae with him. “We’ll carry your shopping bags,” he added before they could protest.
“I really don’t want to carry shopping bags,” Hyukjae grumbled. But he was smiling. As they were walking, he saw Kyuhyun. “Kyuhyun-ah, join us,” he told him, grabbing his arm.
“Ya!” Kyuhyun angrily said.

“What do you think of this?” Tiffany asked Taeyeon, holding up a pink sweater. They were at the ladies wear of a particular store, looking at tops. The boys were holding on to their purchases tiredly.
Before Taeyeon could say anything, Kangin answered, “It looks good on you.”
“Really, oppa?” Tiffany asked, smiling, her eye smile showing. “Do you think I should buy it then?”
“Of course,” Kangin said with a nod. “I’ll buy it for you if you want.” He gave her a shy smile.
Taeyeon rolled her eyes and turned to Jooyeon, who was in the dressing room, trying on some dresses. “Joo, can I see what you’re trying on?” she asked.
“It doesn’t look good on me,” Jooyeon called from the dressing room.
“Let me see,” Taeyeon said, pulling the curtain aside and going inside. “Park Jooyeon!”
Jooyeon had tried on a white, tube dress that fell just above her knees. Her dark brown hair looked even more beautiful against the whiteness of the dress. “It’s too much, isn’t it?” she asked, looking at Taeyeon in the mirror.
“You look beautiful!” Taeyeon gasped. She pulled her out of the dressing room. “Kyuhyun,” she then said, because he was the one standing there, “doesn’t Jooyeon look beautiful?”
Kyuhyun looked up and was about to retort when he saw Jooyeon standing there. She looked like-there was no other word for it-an angel. Even though he didn’t say much, words rarely left him. This was one of those rare moments.
“Wow! Jooyeon! You are beautiful!” Hyukjae exclaimed, pushing Kyuhyun aside. Even Kangin’s mouth was hanging open.
“You really do look wonderful,” Tiffany confirmed, smiling.
“See, I told you,” Taeyeon said, admiring her best friend.
“Why haven’t you dressed like this before?” Kangin asked.
“In school?” Jooyeon asked. “I’ll look ridiculously overdressed.”
“We’ve had parties and everything,” Kangin reminded her.
“Ya, Jooyeon-ah,” Hyukjae said, walking up to her and putting an arm around her shoulder. “You should be careful. Boys will be asking you out left and right and then I’ll be jealous.”
“Oppa,” Jooyeon responded with a laugh, shrugging off his arm. “Don’t be silly.”
“Really,” Hyukjae repeated. “I’ll be really jealous.”
Jooyeon merely laughed and went back to the dressing room to change. As they were leaving the store, Taeyeon fell into step beside Kyuhyun. Tiffany had pulled Jooyeon to another store. Of course, Kangin and Hyukjae were right behind them.
“That girl,” Taeyeon mumbled. Kyuhyun looked blankly at her. “She didn’t buy the dress. It looked great on her, didn’t it?”
“Buy it for her then,” Kyuhyun said, handing her his card.
Taeyeon stood in shock and watched him walk away, his credit card in her hand.
“Why haven’t you bought anything, Jooyeon?” Hyukjae complained as he sat down on one of the sofas in the shoe store they were in.
“If I bought stuff then you’d carry more shopping bags,” Jooyeon said, sitting down beside him.
“I’m tired,” Kangin said, sighing heavily. “I didn’t know shopping was this troublesome.”
“Oppa,” Tiffany suddenly said, showing him the pair of heels that she was wearing. “What do you think of this?”
Kangin stood up at once and followed her. “It looks good on you. Anything looks good on you.”
Hyukjae and Jooyeon laughed. Even Kyuhyun, who was standing by the door, chuckled at this.
“He really likes her, doesn’t he?” Jooyeon remarked.
“Obviously,” Hyukjae agreed. “And it’s all your fault.” He snickered as Kangin followed Tiffany when she tried on another pair that Taeyeon suggested.
“Was it so wrong of me to introduce a friend to my other friends?” Jooyeon asked innocently. He laughed again. She smiled then quietly turned to him. “Anchovy,” she began.
“What is it?” he asked, looking curiously at her.
“How’s… how’s Donghae oppa?” she inaudibly asked. She watched him out of the corner of her eye. She didn’t know why but she felt shy asking the question.
“Ah Donghae,” he responded, smiling a little. “He’s always with Mira these days. I don’t even get to see him much, except when he has time to play basketball with us.” He suddenly turned to her. “You don’t play with us anymore. Why is that?”
She smiled, covering up her surprise that he noticed. She really hadn’t been going to the basketball games after school for two weeks. It didn’t occur to her that they cared since no one said anything about it.
“Just… school,” she told him. “So Donghae oppa is doing well?”
Hyukjae looked at her. “You miss him, don’t you?” he asked straightforwardly.
Jooyeon coughed loudly. She stood up. “I’ll just go to the bathroom,” she said. She excused herself and left the store, rushing by Kyuhyun, who was watching her the entire time.
