(part of me also desperately wants the AU where JP did go to Dublin the first time, and the way that he and Craig made it, but initially it was hard and how maybe there was a stupid, stupid incident where Craig was maybe slightly drunk and veryverycornered in a bar somewhere by some arseholes just out for causing trouble and he accidentally blurted out "that's my cousin Steve" because the only other option is himself (but, more importantly, John Paul) getting the crap kicked out out of him. and that diffuses the tension and Craig is filled with this kind of relief except that there were, of course, witnesses who know John Paul and they were also drunk and maybe didn't get the whole scenario and they gossip and a twisted version gets back to John Paul and, god, things start to wobble and they both hurt each other and maybe break up and John Paul goes to visit his family and they both realise however much they manage to hurt each other, being apart hurts more and and and, that pretty much where my brain dissolves into a kind of sugary goo.
