To Inuzuka Kiba, it felt as though an eternity had passed since Team 8, even himself, had done something exciting that really got one's adrenaline flowing anxiously through the veins. And if he really thought about it, perhaps it was. The last time he made any kind of useful contribution to Konoha was almost three years ago when he had been chosen to go on a mission to reclaim Uchiha Sasuke. That went well...he snickered to himself while stretched, very canine-like, out in the Inuzuka's meadow behind their housing complex.

To say he was bored with working only behind the scenes was an understatement. He was extraordinarily furious with the fact that he could count on one, yes one, finger of all the times he was in the spotlight. That belonged to Uzumaki Naruto, Haruno Sakura, Sai, and Sasuke...even when the last had not set a single step into Konohagakure since he went to train with Orochimaru. Team 7. The 'Mighty' Team 7 that got to do all the exciting missions, have all of the greatest sensei, learn the most powerful jutsu, never got into trouble - even if Kiba did the same, he'd no longer be a chuunin...or a shinobi for that matter - and were granted all of the insane requests they made to the Godaime Hokage without much thought. They were the stars of the village. They were the ones all the younger children wished to be and the older residents praised on a daily basis.

"ARGH! It's so unfair!" the inu-boy yelled, outraged, slamming his fists into the plush grass and causing Akamaru to whimper in shock.

He patted his furry companion, gingerly, as an apology. Then Kiba sighed in frustration, despising the fact that even the other teams had more intense missions than himself. Just this year Team Gai, led by the overly-enthusiastic and slightly disturbing Gai-sensei, went with Team 7 - at this Kiba smirked, sarcastically - to rescue Gaara - the damned Kazekage of Sunagakure, he cursed - from Akatsuki - only the most powerful shinobi ever. And what did Team 8 do? Nothing that great. They went with Yuhi Kurenai on an information retrieval mission where they weren't even allowed to fight so no attention would be drawn to themselves. Hyuuga Neji, Rock Lee, and Tenten. Team Gai. The 'Let's feel sorry for you' Team Gai. It seemed everyone on that team had some kind of horrible thing that happened to them making most people feel bad for them in a way. Neji with the loss of his father and having to serve the main house. Lee almost being permanently injured and having to give up the life as a ninja. And Tenten...well she was just there. Kiba sat up after those thoughts, glaring off into the endless hills covered in forest before him. His hands subconsciously clawed into moist earth beneath his fingers, dirt making a new home under his nails.

It may have had a horrible end, but Kiba could not help feeling envious over Team 10. It was fairly recent that Nara Shikamaru was able to accompany Sarutobi Asuma, Kamizuki Izumo, and Hagane Kotetsu on one of their most dangerous missions - capture or destroy two Akatsuki members. And that one didn't go as planned, Kiba thought, morosely, giving Asuma's memory a moment of silence. But after that, Team 10 were able to go on a mission of revenge. This is where Inuzuka Kiba felt fury. Wasn't part of a shibobi's training to overcome dangerous emotions such as vengeance? Then why were they, mere teenagers, able to participate in something so risky that even the slightest mistake would have led to more casualties? Sure the outcome was the death of the pair, but it didn't feel right that they were able to do something so rash like that. Nara Shikamaru, Akimichi Chouji, and Yamanaka Ino. Team 10. The 'Underdog' Team 10. The one that, even though they were all pretty much slackers and lazy, everyone adored. People admired how they could rise above their faults and handicaps to easily overcome almost any enemy.

And then there was the last team of the group. Aburame Shino, Inuzuka Kiba, and Hyuuga Hinata. Team 8. The 'And who the hell are you again?' Team 8. If Kiba pitied himself for never being able to do anything exhilarating, he felt absolutely melancholy for his teammates, Shino and Hinata. They never got to do anything exciting, unlike Kiba who had at least one mission. On second thought, Kiba recalled, Shino did get to have that one fight with Kankurou after Suna attacked us. He rolled his eyes, an amused smile beginning to claim his formerly hard features. Speaking of Shino, the inu-boy remembered clearly of his boyfriend complaining to him after Naruto's return, saying of how the 'stupid boy' could not even remember who he was. Only do people forget us, he actually chuckled. And while he was on the topic of not being recognized, he could only think of Hinata - the girl he considered his sister - hardly being acknowledged by the boy of her dreams. No matter what she did, hardheaded Uzumaki barely knew of her existence. He never noticed the way she gazed at him with pure admiration and adoration nor the way she would cheer wholly for him in battle. All Naruto thought about was Sasuke. Kiba's smile faded slightly, he would have to find someone else better for Hinata who actually returned her feelings.

The sun climbed ever higher in the clear blue sky, almost reaching its peak position. Kiba took note and with reluctance, removed himself from the comfortable ground he resided on. Whether he wanted to or not, he had training to attend. But before that, a trip to the Aburame complex was first. The Inuzuka boy waved farewell to his ma and made his way out of the Inuzuka clan's housing. As he wandered the streets of Konoha, his mind only thought of how much he wanted nothing more than to go on a challenging mission where the others - as in other teams - would finally get to see how much his skills improved in the last few years. Everyone else had to a chance to show off, so why couldn't he?

Upon reaching the Aburame's door, Kiba knocked loudly so no one would question who their visitor was. That way, there would be more of a chance Shino would answer instead of Shibi. It wasn't that Kiba didn't like Shino's dad, he just felt as if it were the other way around. And the young Inuzuka boy couldn't blame him either. He was the one who ruined the chances of Shino marrying some sweet girl and extending the Aburame clan. At the realization, Kiba flushed bright red in embarrassment.

Kiba tensed, knowing who was at the door before it was even opened. And once it was, the Inuzuka glanced up, meeting with piercing eyes hidden behind dark glasses. Shibi only stared down at the teen in front of him, stepped aside and called for Shino to hurry up and meet with his guest. Within seconds Shino stood before Kiba, who instantly relaxed, and smiled slightly to his lover. The other boy, standing awkwardly on the engawa with him, was the only person who was capable of making Shino actually smile. Turning around to bid his father goodbye, the young Aburame laced his fingers with Kiba's, gave him a quick kiss, and led them off the complex.

They walked in companionable silence, Kiba leaning slightly into the older, towards their training grounds to meet with Hinata and Kurenai-sensei. At their arrival, Kurenai 'awwed' mockingly just to make the pair feel awkward, which she happened to accomplish. Shino rolled his eyes as he released Kiba's hand and sat next Hinata who greeted them both quietly. Kiba did not feel like sitting considering he had a question that had been eating at him all day. He turned to face his teacher who still appeared to be taking it hard that her boyfriend and baby's father passed away - dark bags formed under her eyes and her over all appearance looked unkempt. Kiba couldn't help but to feel sorry for her, though he still had to ask her his question.

"Kurenai-sen..." but before he could finish, his inquiry was cut off by Kurenai clasping her hand over his mouth. His eyes grew as she pointed for him to sit with the others. Kiba complied, slightly annoyed, however wanting to know what she was going to announce.

"I have some exciting news for the lot of you," she began, sounding worn, "I know we've all had little roles in Konohagakure, and it gets really frustrating," - they all nodded in agreement - "Every other team has had more interesting and important missions. Hell, even the Suna team has had more to do than us. But that seems to be changing today!"

Even Shino couldn't restrain his elation and was on the edge of the log with the other two. All three watched her with bright eyes, knowing what she was hinting at. They were finally going to do something that they would, possibly, be remembered for. No longer would people give them looks as though they were foreign, no longer would they be out done by the other teams, no longer would they be looked down upon. It was their time to shine!

"We have been given orders to capture Uchiha Itachi of Akatsuki..."

"HELL YES!" Kiba shouted in glee, no longer able to hold himself back. He punched fervently into the air, gave his Shino a passionate kiss, and Hinata a warm hug, paced back and forth, talking of how they were finally getting the attention they deserved, and stopped suddenly as Kurenai's voice broke through his tirade.

"...with Team 7."

"What!? Oh damn..." Kiba muttered, taking his place back next to Shino and burying his face into the older boy's high collar.

Shino sighed and wrapped his arm around Kiba's slim waist, feeling the disappointment roll off him in tsunamis. He felt it too, though suppressed the urge to shout his disapproval. Great, the Aburame mused while stroking Kiba's hair, the younger boy still mumbling every curse word he knew, just a way to be shown up by Uzumaki in the most humiliating way possible...

As if reading his mind, Kurenai added, "Yep. Just another opportunity for us to be over shadowed by the stars again. And on a larger scale."

The three chuunin sighed in unison not hearing her last sentence.

"...At least I'm not going."
