Still no iBook. It's fixed but I have to pick it up. No car means I have to find a ride. I have no time to get it. ~_~
If no one gets this, that's alright. I've been thinking about something I was unable to articulate at ALL today in my Gay and Lesbian Theater class.
The question I wanted to ask is if the sexualization of queer theater (and the author's claim) has to do with reappropriation. To the religious commununity, gay sex is bad. For a lot of people, it's where they draw the line. They are fine with gay people as long as they don't have sex. I'm making broad generalizations, I know. Anyways, the religious right is using gay sex and America's fear of sex in general against the GLBT community. We live in an odd world. The media bombards us with sex and sexual imagery all the time. However, it can be a very private issue for many. It's talked about it hushed tones. Teenage sex ed has gotten ridiculous; basically all about abstinence. It's an paradox.
The author said that queer theater has to be sexual. At first, I had an issue with this. I felt like this would be a hindernce, not something that should be advocated. Perhaps the author believes it has to be sexual because it's something that the GLBT community must regain and take back. This happened with the word queer. Queer used to be like the n word. It still holds that connotation for some but has been embraced in the last 10 years (I think since 1995).
Time for rehearsal. I might write more about this later. I want to add something about normalcy and the church.
