http://airelement.livejournal.com/4194.html “Alright, does everyone know what they have to do?” Mayelle asked. The group of children nodded cheerily, their blonde ponytails bouncing. The littlest one, only four years old, looked around dreamily and smiled.
Abhorsen Terciel was coming to visit the Glacier tomorrow, and all the young Clayr had been taught a song which put a well-known poem about the Great Charters into music. Mayelle had just finished rehearsing the children when Arielle had awoken from her pleasant daydream about hot chocolate. So the blue eyed child had absolutely no idea that she was supposed to be singing with everyone else.
The next day, all the children lined up in the hall with their tambourines, mini-xylophones and best tunics. Arielle’s big sister, Kirrith, had dragged her into place and furiously whispered at her to concentrate. Arielle did her best to pay attention, but her mind soon wandered as they all waited for the Abhorsen to arrive.
As the other children began to perform their song, Arielle blinked and looked around, wondering where the noise was coming from. She thought she recognised the words and vaguely looked down to see what the object was Kirrith had pressed into her hands. It was a small triangular piece of metal with an unattached stick.
The young Clayr came to the end of their song, and looked down towards Arielle who was supposed to hit the triangle to finish it. Arielle, who had floated off on a daydream again, was brought back to earth suddenly when Kirrith elbowed her hard.
“Wh-” she whispered.
“Hit the triangle, you idiot!” Kirrith hissed.
“Oops,” Arielle said dreamily. Then she flashed her best, most wasn’t-me grin at the Abhorsen and hit the triangle.
