“Sabriel?” Touchstone asked worriedly. Sabriel came out of her trance with a start. “Are you alright?” Sabriel nodded.
“Yes… just tired,” she said quietly. “Chlorr was much more powerful than I expected. I don’t understand where she got so much power - she was more than a Free Magic sorcerer. Something was lending her power, and I want to know what.”
“Kerrigor?” Touchstone asked immediately. Sabriel shook her head.
“No. I would know if the warding spells around him had fallen,” she said.
“Mogget?” Touchstone asked. Sabriel shook her head again.
“I don’t think so… oh, thinking about Mogget has made me hungry,” she said.
“You think boiled cat would taste good? Wouldn’t it be a little furry?” Touchstone asked with a grin. Sabriel whacked his arm lightly.
“I meant the way he asks for fish every time he wakes up, you imbecile,” she said.
“Well, what would milady like to eat, then, if she’s rejecting the fine feline pie I spent hours baking earlier?” Touchstone asked with a bow. Sabriel thought about it.
“A chicken stew would be nice…” she said wistfully.
“Your chariot - well, your Paperwing - awaits you to take you to the kitchens,” Touchstone said, gesturing towards it.
“I wouldn’t mind a steak either…” Sabriel said thoughtfully. “And an apple pie, and a ham sandwich, and some prawns…” Touchstone stared at her.
“Are you channelling Mogget?” he asked in confusion. Sabriel never ate much.
“No, just a god of famine,” she informed him. “And I have a sudden craving for cranberry sauce and pickle with jam sponge cake… yum.” Touchstone shook his head in disbelief.
“That sounds absolutely disgusting…” he said, leading her to the Paperwing and hoping she’d fly it to somewhere she could get food before she ate it.
