so, i left my kids with the other teachers at recess today while i went in to the the bathroom. and on my way in it dawned on me: retail! that is what i need to do with my life. i've been sitting around wondering what in the hell i want to do. i'm talkin good ol fashioned stocking shelves, like at best buy. i mean, think about it:
- i stand all day anyway, so that wouldn't be difficult.
- i would get to help people, which i like to do, without being involved with their personal issues (or parents). it would simply be a matter of, "let me recommend a cd to you" or "yes, that one's right over here." honestly, people always think that i work at stores anyway. instead of giving them a funny look and saying, "am i wearing an f'n blue polo that says best buy?!" i just help them find what they are looking for.
- i used to stock shelves in high school, and i really enjoyed it. you have time to think and do mindless work that has a useful purpose.
- you still get to meet new people at work and deal with new people every day
- i would learn about new and different music that i haven't listened to before
- i would get sweet discounts
why didn't i think of this before? actually, my first summer out of college i really wanted to work at a record shop, but i was never hired.
i'll start stocking at a big store, move up to manager, and then open my own place in a cool little city.
oh. hell. yeah.
