- happy valentine's day,
anewsymphony! ^^ ♥ i hope you like this ;;
the dorm is quiet, just the way kyungsoo likes it. not that he doesn't mind when it's noisy of course; he actually loves it noisy too. it's a rare day when he can wake up and find eleven bodies stuffed into the not quite meant for twelve people apartment, stumbling over extra bodies sleeping on the floor in his room, in the living room, stuffed into beds with the korean team. it's a sight that makes his heart full, that make his steps that much lighter as he makes his way to the kitchen.
they've been working so hard that he feels like, well, they deserve a little something. no one has to be anywhere for a few hours, which was why they'd gathered together the night before and spent time catching up. they've spent a lot of their time apart, the korean members off visiting their families and friends, but they've grown to learn that spending time together just... works. it's good for teamwork, like joonmyun hyung always emphasizes. and thank god that, despite the little squabbles, they actually like each other. kyungsoo knows how lucky they are for that; they've already all seen how a couple of their sunbae groups are much different behind the camera, the close friendship the fans seen dissolved into mere business relationships when no one is watching. the thought of it makes kyungsoo shiver. he thinks it sounds horrible. there are a lot of things he's willing to do for his dream of being able to sing, but he's not sure if living with someone that honestly doesn't like him ("no offense, it's just business.") is something he could handle.
he's spent the last couple of his free days gathering what he needs, hiding them away in his room as best as he can. kyungsoo's also learned really early on that hiding things in the kitchen is not an option, especially if all of them are packed in together. growing bodies need food, that's understandable, but tao alone seems in take in food at a rate that surpasses how fast the managers can keep the kitchen stocked. and tao, kyungsoo thinks with a mock angry scrunch of his nose, is the last little kid on earth that needs any more growing.
in the kitchen, he keeps quiet as he gets down to work.
he knows his status as the "mom" of the group make the fangirls think he's a regular little housewife, but he honestly isn't. he can cook a few things here and there, likes to keep the apartment tidy, but his dream in life is definitely not picking up after five other guys his age. but on the other hand, he does like the chances he takes to cook. it's kind of soothing and mindless, measuring ingredients, mixing things, watching things take from under his hands. its a pleasure all together different from singing; the reactions he gets with his cooking is a lot quieter, but something much more sincere. it's not hard, he thinks guiltily, to please a few fangirls with some cute faces and a bit of skinship. it is much harder to please a herd of starving men who eat their meals like the food is holy. and hey, fangirls can live without skinship. humans can't live without food.
it's the first time in his life kyungsoo has ever made chocolate. it's also the first time he's ever given chocolate to a guy. and multiple ones at that! it's not as hard as he thinks, maybe since he's not making it purely from scratch -- that includes hours, and hours shouldn't be involved if he's not in love. he snorts at himself. the ganache he's already made, hidden deeeeep into his closet. all he needs now is the white chocolate layer he's going to make and melt over it. it's easy enough, following the instructions online -- the english has to be translated with the help of google, but it's simple. that done, he makes breakfast. western, today, since it's valentine's day. pancakes, bacon, toast, eggs, sausage. and rice, because starting the day without at least a little rice is just weird.
later, when everyone's gotten their plate and settled into whatever free space there is, they look at the chocolate and give kyungsoo bright grins. they tease him about being a girl, but it's good-natured. he can tell they're pleased, a little amused, and that's honestly all he wanted. it's a little sad, honestly, because they all date and "talk" around but the day for couples finds them all single - except for oh sehun, who is never quite all the way single. the boy is a serial noona collector.
but they get a good laugh out of the little cards he's made them, all pink and red and filled with over-exuberant "OPPA I LOVE YOU!!"s that he'd died laughing over as he wrote them. kyungsoo feels... accomplished. it wasn't much, but it had been enough to leave everyone smiling as they separate for the day. joonmyun gets stuck with cleaning duty.
and kyungsoo, he sits and eats the left-over chocolate he's made, doesn't share with chanyeol until he's wrestled to the ground for them, and hopes that next valentine's day, he'll hopefully be spending it with less boys and more girls. or at least just one.
