Everything under the cuts are spoilery, unless I specifically say they're not. The spoilery material under the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cut also contains some theorizing on my part, which is not necessarily spoilery since, you know, it's my speculation and not anything confirmed, but it does involve comic book information, and you're so anti-spoiler that you don't even like to read likely theories, you might want to avoid.
So, Once Upon A Time. I was mostly pretty happy with the premiere last week. Let me just say, I know OUAT is kind of a silly show and can definitely bring on the cheese, but I'm not one of these people that watches it because I think it's cheesy, or because I think it's a fun show to laugh at, or anything. I'm an INFJ, people, and a writer, I take my storytelling seriously, even when I know it's a little silly. For that reason, I stopped reading the hilarious but quite critical recaps done for the show over at TV.com (anyone else frequent that site a lot? My username is littlebit_liz over there).
Anyway, my point is, I can take the silliness and even inconsistency of the plot on OUAT so long as the characters are consistent - that's the only time I get upset with the show. I'm tentatively excited for this Frozen arc, because the showrunners said they themselves love Frozen and that it was their idea to do this arc (I've had my suspicions that some of the less well-done arcs, like the Wicked Witch/Oz arc, were more the network's/Disney's idea, to promote some of their properties). Anyway, so speaking of character development, I was really glad that Regina decided not to get rid of Marian, because after all she came through in the last season, that would've been major backtracking on her character.
I have just one more thing to say about OUAT, which is to do with the Belle/Rumple scene, in which HE DRESSED THEM UP IN THE DISNEY MOVIE COSTUMES AND PLAYED THE SONG BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Guys, I loved this scene so much, because, okay, in the Storybrooke universe, the Disney movies exist. They've referenced the Mulan movie and the Peter Pan movie. SO RUMPLE CHOOSING THOSE OUTFITS AND THAT SONG IS NOT JUST A FUNNY LITTLE COINCIDENCE. He's seen the movie, guys. It's probably his favorite movie. He probably watched it AGAIN AND AGAIN in those 28 years they were cursed. This is now my head-canon.
I really enjoyed this episode, more than the premiere. I didn't dislike the premiere, but I was sort of surprised by the darker tone. I was excited for the darker tone, and for what it meant for the rest of the season going forward, but I can't say I really enjoyed the darker tone in the premiere episode. I think because there wasn't a lot of humor in that first episode. The second episode continued the darker tone, but also had some of that Whedonverse humor that I love so much. I'm also liking the character of Lance Hunter so far, even though I've gathered that's not really the popular opinion, so far. I mean, yeah, he's been kind of a tool, but he's that typically rogue-ish character that I love so much, so I hope he'll be sticking around.
I also really liked the interaction between Fitz and the new tech guy (can't remember his name?). I liked that he didn't tip-toe around Fitz, but also didn't expect too much of him, and how that kind of attitude really seemed to help Fitz. That said, I'm also excited we're going to see Simmons (the real Simmons) back in the next episode!
Also, in terms of Skye/Raina/Skyedad/the weird symbols/the GH drug... so, this is going to the be the Inhumans, right? Is that where this is headed? I'd heard a theory that, since the MCU can't use the terms "mutants," that they're going to use the Inhumans to explain "gifted" characters that are often mutant in the comics (like Scarlet Witch and Quickilver, who are going to be in the next Avenger films). I wasn't super familiar with the Inhumans, so I read up on them in Wikipedia, and, wow, a lot about them fits what's going on with Skye, Raina, Coulson, and those weird symbols. Raina's whole shtick about "What will I become?" and all of that - it really fits.
It would be cool, too, because if that is where they're going with this, then I suspect all this mystery about the Inhumans will be sorted out on the show this season - so that by the time we meet Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in Age of Ultron, we'll already know what all is going on with them. Which is exciting, because rather than the show kind of stalling its story to wait for Winter Soldier, the show itself will be driving big storyline to help set up the film.
Thoughts? This might be an old theory, I don't know. I'm not super up to date on fan theories and such.
I'm not sure what to say about Reign except that it was awesome and the perfect end to my exhausting work week. BASH/KENNA I LOVE THEM. If you'd asked me a few weeks ago, I would not have said that Reign was a returning show that I was, like, really excited for, but I thought it was starting next week, and when I found out it was actually this week, I was so, so excited. It's good to have Reign back.
Just finished re-watching Grimm, including last season, and ZOMG, SO, SO EXCITED FOR THE NEW SEASON TO START. Which is another 3 weeks away. Sigh. I'm just excited that I'm so excited, though. LOL. I didn't love the second season - I didn't think it was as good as the first - so, this time last year, I wasn't super excited for more Grimm. But this season, I'm really excited. I'm excited to see where this complication of Nick LOSING HIS POWERS goes.
I mean, don't hate me, but I'm kind of hoping this ups the conflict between him and Juliette? I like Juliette, but I've never really liked Nick/Juliette. (I'm, um, kind of a closet Nick/Adalind shipper, shhh :P) I don't think Nick and Juliette work well as a couple. I'm not sure if they'd actually break them up - honestly, I'm not sure how Juliette fits into the show if she's not with Nick, and I don't really want her to go - but I really kind of would like them to break up. And with Nick (accidentally) sleeping with Adalind, and with Juliette expressing how she feels like Nick's being a Grimm is kind of ruining their lives - I just think Nick is going to actively want his Grimm powers back, whereas Juliette is going to feel like maybe it's kind of a blessing that he's no longer a Grimm. And maybe/hopefully this will bring some conflict between them.
Also, Sean! Don't die, Sean! I love Renard. It makes me kind of sad that the others don't really like him because they think he's kind of shifty. I mean, he is totally shifty, but I feel like he needs some real friends :D
Also, although I am a closet Nick/Adalind shipper, I also liked the flirtiness going on between her and Meisner last season, and it just occurred to me that Adalind is on her way to Austria again, where she will presumably fall into trouble. Maybe she'll run into Meisner again and he can help her out? *praying this happens*
So that's about it. I haven't seen Castle, Forever, or Hawaii Five-O yet this week. I have seen Sleepy Hollow and Grey's Anatomy, so if you want to discuss anything about those shows, feel free to comment!
