Email to MSNBC

I am sick of this. I am sick of the national media focusing whole-heartedly on New Orleans alone. Yes, it was terrible what happened there, but Katrina affected Mississippi as well. I, yokuso, hersisterbek, and others I know are sick and tired of Mississippi being treated as the embarrassing cousin that nobody likes to talk about. So, I sent an email to msnbc.com. It's high time that people take notice of our state. We are not the backwoods, uneducated, imbecilic state that people seem to think we are

If anyone else is as sick as I am of the media ignoring the disaster of Katrina in Mississippi (and Alabama, for that matter), I encourage you to email msnbc or any other nation news media group.

I'm posting the letter I sent.

Dear msnbc,
I am a citizen of southern Mississippi, and I want to say that I am disgusted at the lack of reporting being done on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We are all quite aware that New Orleans was a big, popular, well known city. And we are now all quite aware of what a terrible disaster it was down there. I'm going to miss the city as well.

But I myself and many of my friends here are really and truly sick of New Orleans being made the centerpiece of this disaster while the Mississippi Gulf Coast is made barely a footnote. We've been hearing the exact same information about New Orleans over and over and over and over on every single channel we've been able to watch.

MISSISSIPPI IS TIRED OF BEING IGNORED!! Dozens of my friends from the coast lost EVERYTHING. They lost their homes, their jobs, their schools, their churches. It's not just a situation of them being forced to leave their homes, it's a situation of them not HAVING a home to go back to.

It's a shame that our cable is out here at my home and that the only local station we are able to get is NBC, because I refuse to watch anymore NBC national news reports until some of you start acknowledging that Mississippi is worth reporting about.

~An Irate Mississippian

P.S. The Mississippi Gulf Coast consists of more than just Biloxi and Gulfport.
