Good morning, October 5, Saturday morning, how are you today?
I’m Arashi’s Matsumoto Jun.
As from today, Arashi Junstyle starts. Well, I still don't have the feeling that it’s beginning already. I’m still searching for how I should deliver the show. But from now on, it’ll be great if it’s shaping up. Maybe there will be parts where it’s hard to listen, so honestly, yoroshiku onegai shimasu.
Well (laugh), please stay tune with me, Matsumoto Jun for the next 30 minutes.
---------------------------------
Eeeeh? (laugh) that was the first episode.
What you’ve heard just now was Junstyle aired on October 5, 2002. Listeners, please don’t be mistaken.
Hmm, is my voice different? It’s a little bit high-pitched, I think, and also it sounded a little cheeky, hahaha (laugh). It was like, did I do it with that tone? It seems I did. Hmm, how nostalgic. Eh, in October 9 years ago. And after 9 years, today finally is the last.
Okay, please stay tune with me Matsumoto Jun for the next approximately 30 minutes!
Junstyle, starts.
Song: PIKA☆NCHI/嵐
Once again, good morning, I’m Arashi’s Matsumoto Jun. The opening song that you’re listening right now is Arashi’s PIKANCHI. Karasaki san loves PIKANCHI so much so it was arranged that in the last episode I’d play Pikanchi.
Today I received lots of emails. Thank you very much. Among those, I’ll introduce memories of the listeners that have been listening to this show for a long time, and of course, I’ll talk about myself too and look back.
I received an email from someone with a pen name, “destiny of sand clock”
“Konnichiwa (Jun: konnichiwa)
“Otsukaresama deshita for 9 years. The first was on October 5, 2002. Until the last episode, overall, there are 465 episodes (Jun: hee, there are?)
Episode that I remember the most is the one on March 26, 2005 (my memory is not accurate so I’m not sure if it is the right date but it was when all of Arashi came to the studio). You all did the Ookiri (T/N: last segment of the show), and I remember it was very funny. Please tell us if you have memorable moments from that episode.”
That’s what she said.
This! I remember this. Everybody was like “I’m ○○from ○○shop. It was when we said “Doumo…” right? (laugh) Yeah we did it (laugh).
Personally, I remember I was thinking that episode was not progressing properly (laugh), haha (laugh). I think we were doing someone else’s radio and then we did my show from the latter half. Overall, there was no….something with a certain topic….that we usually do on other shows, and there were quite a lot of free talks. I have the impression that I thought it was difficult when I did it. Was it only once? All five came here? Riida once came on my birthday right?
(BGM)
Jun: What? What is this? (bgm)
(Satoshi’s voice): Nack 5, Satoshistyle
Jun: Hahahaha (laugh) yeah this is the one (laugh)
(T/N: below in italic is recording from the said episode)
-----------------------------------------
(pan pan! Sounds of party crackers)
Satoshi: Happy birthday! (clap hands), yaay, Matsumoto san, happy birthday!
Jun: What are you doing?
Satoshi: Sit down, hurry! Hurry up! Sit down!
Jun: Don’t host people’s radio show unannounced!
Satoshi: It’s okay, sit down, Matsumoto san, Matsumoto san, sit down
Jun: What (laugh) is it?
Satoshi: Sit down, well, it’s a….
Jun: What are you doing? (laugh)
Satoshi: Sit down! So, in today’s Satoshistyle!
Jun: No, no, wait a minute, just wait a minute…..it’s Junstyle (laugh)
Satoshi: Eh?
Jun: Junstyle
Satoshi: Well, ermm….we don’t need Nougaki (T/N: Nougaki: prescription, rules)
Jun: Nougaki? (laugh) what is Nougaki?
Satoshi: So, ee, in today’s Satoshistyle, today I want to host the show with Matsumoto Jun-kun that has just turned 20! (sounds of clapping hands). Today, me, Ohno Satoshi is the Special Birthday Present, SBP S! So, we have here 20…..
Jun: Fuh (sounds of candles blown)
Satoshi: A! so fast!! so fast!! so fast!! I haven’t said anything yet! You already blew them off!
Satoshi: Hey! You are really doing everything so fast! so listeners, he already blew the candles. Now from me, Arashi’s Riida Ohno Satoshi, the first birthday present….jajan!
Jun: Wait, wait! Not “jajan”…
Satoshi: Eh? I’m sorry, jajanjan, jajan, I said it with my mouth….
Jun: No no, it’s not the “jajan” (laugh), it’s not the problem of “jajan”, why are you here?
Satoshi: Why. Why? What are you talking about? Today is Satoshistyle.
Jun: No, wait
Satoshi: Jun-kun thank you so much for coming, really.
Satoshi: Well, eeh, I am….eeh, really for you. I brought a present!!
Jun: What? from Ohno-kun?
Satoshi: Yes
Jun: Really?
Satoshi: Seriously
Jun: You’re giving me this today?
Satoshi :I never tell a lie!
Jun: Hahaha (laugh) you’re lying!
Satoshi: Well, it’s fine, please open the present!
Jun: This…this is seriously from Ohno-kun?
Satoshi: Yes it is
Jun: Did you bring it here?
Satoshi: Yes
Jun: It was not prepared by someone else?
Satoshi: Nope
Jun: This….is Ohno-kun’s this year’s birthday present for me?
Satoshi: Birthday! Party!!
Jun: Hahaha (laugh) you are so noisy! Seriously! (laugh)
-----------------------------------------
And he was not drunk at all, our Ohno-kun (laugh).
I have fond memories of that, when was that? I was twenty, so that means 2003? It was my first birthday since I started the show, and someone replaced me as the host (laugh).
Well, we had that too. So nostalgic. It was a long time ago, now that I think of it.
So that means it was also the time when I talked and exchanged voice mail with Sakamoto Ryuuichi san (T/N: A famous musician). Was it in 2004? That’s right, Sakamoto Ryuuichi san came to solid planners! (T/N: I think it was a session in Junstyle, not sure though) If I look back now, it was awesome!
Oh, and I remember, one day before concert, we were finished (T/N: with the radio show), he asked me, “Do you have time now?” and I said “Of course I do.” And then he took me to a meal together.
Also, when he was about to go to New York, I contacted him and he invited me for dinner. That was interesting.
Really, if I’m not hosting this show, maybe Sakamoto san….I think I would end up only listening to his music because I like it. I’m really grateful.
Now that I look back, I can remember many things.
Ee, I will read emails from the listeners as long as the time allows me to.
For now, please listen to the commercials…
CM
FM Nack5 Arashi Junstyle brought to you by Matsumoto Jun.
So let’s continue reading some emails
From Motoko san, Machida City.
“To Jun-kun,
Good morning (Jun: good morning)
While I’m listening to your voice now, the days from the 8 and a half years when I was listening to your show are flashing in my mind. I missed your show maybe 2 or 3 times. I’ve recorded your shows in dozens of MDs (mini disc) (Jun: Wow! That’s awesome…)
Less than a year since the show started, you had cooking sessions with Karasaki san right? Sometimes it was successful, sometimes it failed. Sometimes I also tried the recipe, imitating you.
Maybe the show was trial and error, but I was excited too and enjoyed it very much.”
Hmm, I remember two things from those cooking sessions. The first one was when it turned out that me and Karasaki san would cook and actually tried it, we received lots of emails complaining it was noisy! (laugh). Secondly, I did many things, various things. Once, I tried to make meringue, and I failed. I tried my best but I couldn’t whip the meringue. Yes, that’s right, I couldn’t make it stiff. I didn’t know what to do so I called my Mom, but still it failed.
And then, I went to a place near where I recorded the show before, it was a café that also served some sweets. I went there late at night, and ask the people there to make a stiff meringue (laugh). When I was asking that, Nari (T/N: Narimiya Hiroki, actor) was there. He was like, “Hey, what are you doing here?”
Well, therewas that happening.
Also, we recorded at the karaoke a lot too. We went to the karaoke and we were like, singing the songs we always sing at the karaoke. Also…there was a billiard game with TOKIO’s Yamaguchi-kun. It was the time when....Shun's (T/N: Oguri Shun) Surely Someday? We listen to the talk outside.
I really did lots of things.
Well, lately, it got calmer, and we did most of the recording at the studio, but before….hmm…I once thought, despite of a radio show, why does Junstyle have lots of recordings on location? (laugh)
We recorded on locations frequently so the listeners probably also had that kind of impression.
Next, one more email, from a radio pen name Rajio name Chi- chan, Saitama City.
“I remember many things. When I listen to Junstyle in the dressing room on my wedding. When I listen as I endured the pain of contraction in the delivery room. I had decided that every Saturday is Mommy’s time, and I spent it with so much fun. Jun-kun, thank you very much, and also, otsukaresama deshita. The child I gave birth while listening to your show is 6 years old now.”
That’s incredible.
Hmm, I can understand that you listen to my show in the dressing room, on you wedding, but I doubt if my show is the right show to listen in the delivery room, while enduring the pain of contraction. I’m deeply grateful. I can feel the history. I have the feeling that each of the listeners also had their own situations at the time, and remembering many things while listening to this show.
One more, let’s read one more email, from Mayu chin, 16, senior high school student from Yokohama City.
“
Jun kun konnichiwa (Jun: konnichiwa). I like it the best when Jun-kun talk about your favorite artists in Junstyle. Yamashita Tatsurou, aiko, Dreams Come True, Michael Jackson, and Arashi. I can remember only those, but I’m sure you also listen to others and have many more favorite artists.”
That’s what she says.
“Please do your best on the stage play.”
The email also says that.
Yes, hmm….I talked with the staff just now. Before, I was more like a DJ (laugh), yeah that kind of talk (laugh). About how I choose the songs to play…there are songs that were recommended by the staff, but in the end, I got to choose everything. In the first years of the show, I played the songs that I was listening at the time, or the ones I used to listen before that I really liked.
In the last several years, I think I often played calmer songs, considering the time it is aired on Saturday. At the beginning, the songs were…more up-tempo. I guess the first episode you’ve just listened was also like that. (laugh)
I miss that also. Hmm…I…at the time I went to Miyakojima, and I kept listening to the song there. Beenie man or something like that, I guess. Beenie man and Janet’s song, I think.
It’s really (laugh) the world of my interests….yeah, I think so.
I also received an email regarding that. I also received emails saying that the listeners were happy they could listen the full version of a song every time Arashi releases a single or a new song,
Karasaki san, the staff really appreciates Arashi songs, I’m grateful.
I’m happy because I can deliver the songs that I like, including our songs to other people.
I will continue reading your emails, but first, please listen to a song, Arashi’s Happiness.
(Song: Happiness)
You are listening to Happiness from Arashi and I will read another email now.
From Maho san, Meguro district (T/N: Tokyo)
“To me, if I were to put Junstyle in one word, it would be “Touching” (Jun: I’m happy to hear that)
In Junstyle, there’s a kindness in the mails from the listeners, and in Jun-kun’s every word.
Now I’m studying to be a nurse. I also want to be a person that can touch many people’s feelings, just like Jun-kun. I’m growing up each and every day. Thank you so much for the many touching moments.”
That was the email. Thank you very much.
Next, another email from Tomiko san in Matsuda city.
“Konncihiwa (Jun: konnichiwa)
I’m also aiming for a new goal starting from October. I was saved many times by Jun-kun’s radio show, so, from now on, even though I’d feel a little bit anxious about how it will turn out and maybe I would feel I want to give up, but me too, will take this as the chance to be better, and do my best while treasuring my own private time.
Junstyle is ending, but Jun-kun, you already decided to start a new journey, and I think you will grow up even more as you take a deep breath to encounter a new start. And I’ll be looking forward to a new radio show from you. I will always love Jun-kun who always moves forward with a new step.”
That was the email, thank you very much
I received so many emails, mails and faxes today, I’m deeply grateful.
Well, it was when I was a teenager. I think when I just turned 19? I think it was the time when I was most troubled. I was a troubled teenager, or shall I say…I was looking for something. I was worried about many things. I was thinking the best I could, and pushing my opinions to others….nnhahaha (laugh)
I think I did something that’s a characteristic of a teenager, “the last evil” in order to become an adult.
I’ve been doing the show since then. My voice tone also, from the emails I received today, it seems the listeners had the impression that “why does this boy talking in whispers?” But I don’t remember though, I apologize.
But I think I was like that. I think, when I host this program, I would just talk honestly about what I’m thinking. But I think it took me sometime to deliver it as a show that is enjoyable to listen to.
I would like to thank, no other words than gratitude, to the staffs who were so patient towards me and to the listeners who had sent emails and letters when we aired the show.
9 years is a very long time. An elementary school student would have graduated from junior high school right?
It’s truly a very long time.
--end of part 1---
