You know what's stupid? Most leases for places to live end on May 31st but they begin on June 1st. This means you have to move all of your stuff out of your old place on the 31st but you can't move stuff into your new place until the next day on the 1st. I know some places are lenient on this and will let you move in early...however, there are some places that just won't allow it. What are you supposed to do during this period in between living situations? You're stuck in limbo until the clock changes ahead a few hours.
It's always so awkward, too. You have to spend a couple days figuring out where all your stuff is going to go for just one night. First, you try the landlord and see if they'll let you move maybe just some of the big stuff over so it's not a hassle the next day. If that doesn't work, you suggest you store it in the garage where you're going to move. If that doesn't work, then you're calling around to friends to see if you can store your things at their place. If that doesn't work, then you're toying with the idea of renting out a storage space to keep your things for just a night. Why all this hassle? The move itself is already a pain in the ass.
You know what else sucks about this? Usually, on that last night at your old place, I end up packing up everything so well that I'm left with just a blanket and a pillow to use for sleeping on the ground somewhere. Then, you have to get up extra early after a really uncomfortable sleep just so you can get out of the house before new tenants come in.
You know what's even dumber? There are some leases out there that will end on May 30th instead of the 31st because they think they're giving you extra time to move into your new place. Well, that's even worse because then instead of just a night of trying to figure out what you're going to do, you have to spend an entire day stuck in the time trap!
I think in the future, they should invent a portal that you can put all of your stuff in that will only reappear on days that you need it and in the location that you need it. This way you can just load up all of your things into your storage portal, wait a night, and then have it open again at your new apartment.
Or I could just have less things.
