As I was driving down the highway today, I was greeted several times with warning signs telling me that there was a bump in the road. This got me thinking... if there's a bump in the road and someone had enough time to drive all the way out there to put a sign by it, why didn't they just fix the bump in the road? Are they just marking it so they can get around to it later?
Imagine if other professions approached problems this way. What if a dentist found that you had a cavity and instead of filling it, he put up a little sign next to it that said "cavity?" Or what if a fireman put up a sign that said "fire" next to a burning building? How about if police officers put signs next to banks that said "burglary in progress?"
I'm sure there's a logical reason for the "bump" sign - simply to warn drivers about the rough terrain while all of the highway workers are off fixing more major problems. Again, though, it seems like it would be a really quick fix...especially if someone took the time to mark the spot with a sign.
