Comic Con, and Art: Shirebound's Quarantined

Jul 22, 2011 06:34

Hey guys, I have a few minutes to post so let's get started.

Comic Con yesterday was insane. TheOneRing.net panel was completely filled to the brim, even earlier than usual! Being on staff this year, I did not have to worry about getting in line and I ended up passing out lots of goodies and whatnot. I was also the first sponsor of a travelling Gandalf statue, though I passed that on to another staff member at the end of the day because I'm not staying anywhere near the convention center.

Had another great dinner with the TORn, Shadow and Flame, and Weta folk. Richard Taylor sadly was not able to make it this year, but Tim and David are here, and many new people are here, so I'm going to still be stalking the Weta booth chatting with them :D OH! And before I left for San Diego, I finished up my paperwork to study abroad in Wellington next year. So... YAY.

Now for the good stuff: I met up with shirebound a few blocks from the convention center; I try and meet up with her every year ^^ shirebound was one of the first fan fiction authors I ever read, back in 2003, and she was the main reason I joined LJ in the first place in January of 2004. I met her for the first time at my first comic con in July of 2004... and all of that together completely opened and began one big part of my online fandom experience, the fan fiction side.

Throughout these last seven years, Shirebound has been incredibly supportive, encouraging, and friendly. She was one of my first 'fans' of my artwork, when I was a wee 14 year old and just starting out. So, as a thank you for her friendship, I did my first fan art for a fan fiction (hee, so geeky) of her story, Quarantined, one of my all-time favorite stories. This is from one of the first chapters in the story:
