I love my dad

eli_14 told me about how his local bookstore has a first edition LOTR that will be at the comic con. I started bouncing over it and my dad came in.

"Dad! There's gonna be a LOTR First Edition at the comic con!"

He gave me that look. "Wow, you're like a crack cocaine addict."

"Am not! Besides, this is much healthier!"

"No, no, there's something wrong with you." He slightly deepened his voice. "Your love of the halfling's leaf has clearly slowed your mind." He burst out laughing and walked away.

Thanks, dad. I love you for at one moment, you are mocking me, and the next, you are clearly and utterly supporting and fueling my love.

Best part about it is that he does this fairly often. I cannot tell you how many times he has emulated Popcorn-face Orc from the third movie, the one with the raspy, deep voice. He especially loves the line, "Fear. The city is rank with it. Let us ease their pain. Release the prisoners!"

And almost always, Erik will respond, in a high voice, "Catapult!"

... ok, amending the title. I love my family. At one moment they're half-mocking my nerdiness, the next they join in with reiterating LOTR film quotes. How often do you get a family as cool as that?

lotr, humor, family
