I sat, curled in my window, thrown open the the world and watched as the summer storm strolled in on the afternoon breeze. Darkness fell and my room disappeared behind me. The storm broke upon us quietly, sneaking up as though it intended nothing but a calm, peaceful evening. I sat and breathed in the scent of distant rain and roses, the grey clouds lulled about while the air buzzed with the secret of a violent storm.
The fiery scar stretched across the sky and disappeared before I could even turn my head in its direction and the thunder crashed around me with a roar that caused screams of fear from my little sister's room. The rain came up slowly like a stalking cat, and the sound of an otiose sprinkler whirled somewhere in the distance. With an explosion of light and sound, the storm settled itself directly above and showed its true colors of grey, black and blue. My room light up like day and in the light I saw my dog lumbering towards me, cars hurried below in the wet streets trying to escape the dense rain the danced in gusts before the wind.
I was sad when the rain went from an angry torrent to a lazy drizzle and the sound of the sprinkler became distinct once again. With one last groan, the thunder quieted like an angry baby who has finally cried himself to sleep, and the lightening? It's still dancing silently in the purple sky as the storm leaves with an an evening whisper.
