Partly due to my gross inability to icon in 2014, I thought I'd approach my retrospective slightly differently. At the end of the year I selected my personal favourite icons that came from the few(ish) icons I managed to make last year. Each of them represents something I think I did well in 2014, from nailing colouring, to exploring composition, to (somewhat) creative text. And eventually, there would be the ultimate comparison between my choices, and those for the voting at
bestof_icons, which is probably the most comprehensive way to see which icons were loved and which were duds.
It was an interesting process for me to consciously undertake, and I think it kind of skewed the way I felt about the end result? The top 3 icons from voting didn't make the cut for my Top 12, but at the same time I can understand why they are the top 3, as they sort of represent elements of my icons in a very cohesive manner: Disney with some subtle lighting, bright colours & Blue + yellow. More interesting (from a personal preference point of view), my
personal favourite from last year didn't even make the nomination cut, which sort of prompted me to consider why I would have picked it while others didn't.
That all being said, I'm definitely not disappointed in the icons that were selected in the bestof poll, and I'm a little chuffed that two icons of the same screencap made it in, because it's nice to know I can do different things and people will like them both. All in all, I think it was an interesting way to assess my iconing evolution throughout the year. And to everyone who took the time to nominate or vote (for me, or any of the numberous other talented makers) in this years bestof-icons extravaganza, thank you!

Begin Again: Let's start by making icons on a more regular basis. Re-establish your love for the little boxes; figure out why you desperately want to keep making them.Always Remember: Keep at it with those fandoms you love, rather than the fandoms that are easily iconned. They are great in number, and deserve some iconing love from you as well.Never Forget: A little love can go a long way. Try to share the commenting love, even if it's a few words for a few stunning icons.
