I post at maisonjaune and magicmachine ( tag)

I'm not quite sure where I'm going with my icons these days. I feel like I'm stuck between vibrance and texture heavy.
text is still a huge weakness of mine and I can't seem to get away from center crops. I don't know, is it getting boring?

Ah, so I went and looked up your comm and kicked myself cause I wasn't watching it. But that has been fixed now.

Whatever I say may not be very useful cause I am only just seeing your work and looked back into the last few posts. I saw your latest post and it was so very lovely and bright and soft. But then I went slightly more back and saw your Sherlock Holmes post. That was muy fantastic. I love the monochromatic colours, the text and definitely the texture use.

From whatever I've seen, your style has taken a bit of evolution hasnt it? And the new direction it has taken is really lovely. But that being said, I kind of miss the er, grittiness. I went back a little to the walking dead post and it's dated 20/11/2011. The last icon of the dude holding up his finger, UH-MAZING. And the icon with the skeletal hand and vibrant green, that kind of broke my brain.

The new style is soft and a little muted but NO lie, your er -grittiness texture thing ( I hope I'm making sense) that was awesome. It would be lovely to see that crop up, maybe this time with the soft muted thing. The fourth Kate example icon is a thing of beauty. Not gonna lie, it's so lovely I want to hug it.

As for the centre crop thing, I feel you dude. There is no way around it except to drag your crop tool around and experiment with new crops. And if all else fails, just stick to whatever you like. The way I see it, your crops dont even seem like an issue. They seem pretty good and you have a lot other stuff going for you which never for a minute makes the icon seem boring.

aw, thanks for watching :3

I'm definitely trying to implement textures a little more in my upcoming work! and the former theme over at 20inspirations made me realize that I don't have to up the contrast all that much all the time (: however, I'm not sure how this is going to turn out on the long run. maybe I'll find a style that merges all that or I'll go abck and forth like I'm doing right now. either way, thank you so much for your input! it's very much appreciated ♥

I love both your vibrant style and your texture heavy style a lottttt, and I don't know, it seems like you could combine them pretty well? I don't think that having lots of textures necessarily makes an icon less vibrant. I think your 20insp Supernatural round is a good example of this? The icons are vibrant with those gorgeous green tones, but also have a lot of textures and the grungy feeling that I love. But gah either way your icons are brilliant, honestly, so whatever direction you end up going in will be awesome I'm sure!

Also center crops ftw honestly, I don't get bored of them. They're ~classic.

Well first of all I love your icons and I'm always super impressed with the way you maintain image quality while still making things really bright and contrasted! All of my crits are just my personal preferences so please take with a grain of salt :P

I totally associate you with your bright green/yellow colouring although I like when you bring in other colours (ie I prefer this to this because I think the darker blues in the bottom corner add more interest. I also LOVE when you work with pinks and purples (like this one) because I think they're colours that work well with your vibrant style, and I like when you have more gradiented colour like this and this. I like your texture use, though I think it fits your style better when it's more grungy and less line-y. I also think your text is fine and your cropping is almost always great, so I don't think you need to worry about it. The only two crops of yours that I think could have stood to be more interesting were this one (which I would actually liked as a crop a lot if there was more contrast in the left side of the icon, but right now I think it's lacking a focal point) and this one (which I think would have worked better if there was more negative space - right now the background and the guy split my focus evenly, they're about equal brightness and take up equal parts of the canvas - again, I just think it's lacking a focal point).

These are two more of my all-time favs by you, by the way!

Was this helpful? lol I haven't given concrit in ages, I feel really out of practice :P Let me know if anything needs more detail because my thoughts are kinda all over the place right now haha.
