The next tutorial writer I discovered when I started was ohfreckle. In a sea of "tutorials" that were little more than a series of layers and settings, ohfreckle stood apart as explaining why she chose the settings she did and why she chose each tool she did.
I'm at a loss to tell you which are the most amazing because seriously? I just have to flail and say, "ALL OF THEM!" The ones that I refer to over and over and over are, How I Icon, both her wonderful textureguides, and this Supernatural tutorial, which gave me my first hook into figuring out how to color Supernatural caps.
I have her newest tutorial on blending bookmarked to explore again.
I love ohfreckle's tutorials. I've been making icons since 05 and her tutorials are ones I often reference back to time after time. She posted a font guide a while back that I still look at and consider to be one of the tools that really helped improve my text and take it to another level. And of course where would we SPN icon makers be without her Supernatural tuts, am I right? :)
You are so right! No clue where the Supernatural iconning world would be but I, for one, would be out in the weeds. Do you have a link to the font guide? I don't have it in my memories. 0.0
Here it is. Keep in mind it's over 5 years old and just gives the basics, but the tips are still valid and totally useful IMO. :) Best font guide ever!
OMG! That is a blast from my past that I haven't seen in such a long time. I think I discovered that before I even realized what memories were. I'm sure I had it bookmarked on an old CPU.
That is the very first font guide I ever saw. I adored it! Alex has been schooling me for a very long time. THANK YOU for that. I've now added it to my collection of font tutorials in memories.

I know, right? That was the first one I used when I started making icons and yeah, it's a little dated but the tips are still relevant. If a newbie icon maker asked me where to begin with text, I'd push them in Alex's direction every. single. time. :) She owns text. And everything about icons. Period.
And on an off-topic sidenote, would you like to be friends? We obviously have tons in common (icon-making, SPN, oddlyfamiliar). Add me?
It was so helpful! I wasn't familiar with toggling amongst the anti-aliasing types or adjusting the spacing so it helped me on so many levels. The links to download the fonts were icing on the cake. I think I still have every one of those fonts.
I would love to be friends! I've added you. You had me with icon making and excited me with SPN but Chelle is the cherry on top! :D
