Friday Charloft Prompt

Tonight, share with us the happiest days of your life.

For extra points, tell us what came before and after those days.

I'd say the happiest days of my life were during my second year at MIT. I was sixteen and had just declared my double major of both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. I lived in the dorms by myself, as they felt it was better for a boy my age to not have to deal with sharing a room with a nineteen year old. I met Emma in my Differential Equations class and she seemed to pay extra attention to me, which I arrogantly assumed was because of my looks. I was partially right- she was surprised to find a kid in her class. Anyway, I asked her out for a coffee (cuz that's what they do in America, right?) and she nicely agreed. (A year later I realized how fucking presumptuous I was...)

We hit off a solid friendship. She's only three years older than I, so it wasn't that ridiculous. Besides, age of consent is sixteen in Massachusetts, so we were solid. Not that it ever got there... ...or maybe it did. Either way we were and still are pretty close. She lived off campus and we would spend all our time together, studying, watching movies, researching, planning and building things, messing with her ferret, and all sorts of other things two carefree best friends do in college. She taught me American and I taught her proper English.

Those days, those were the best days of my life. I didn't have to worry about the state of the world, my public image, or Father. All I worried about was getting the metric shit-load of homework done before Emma found out I'd been slacking on it. She got me through MIT, I swear.

Before these days, I'd been miserable at home studying with Roger and my private Tutors, as I'd been kicked out of the last boarding school to accept me. And after those days, I was forced back home to be miserable in my current state of purgatory.
