I love rain. Especially when it's been 90 degrees for like a week.
I went and checked out the new-ish martial arts place near my apt. It's about 5 minutes away, and the guy does Muay Thai and a bunch of other stuff (Hapkido and Kung Fu and Thai Chi, and apparently some sword stuff...). My contract at Ohio Krav Maga will expire soon, so I have to decide if I want to stick with it, or try something else. I enjoy the Krav, but I do miss the discipline of a traditional martial art.
I'm going to check it out this week. He (the owner) gave me the spiel about how the style of Muay Thai he teaches is old and secret and you have to train in Thailand and he learned it from a monk, and I can honestly say I cared not at all. I'll decide if I like it based on if he's a decent teacher, and if it's a good fit for someone my size, body weight and skill level. Monks don't really enter into the equation. I could tell he thought I should care, though, so I made impressed noises and nodded and smiled.
We'll see how it goes. If nothing else, it's closer and he offered me a cheaper rate than what I'm paying now, and the classes are likely to be a bit smaller, which would be nice. And I'd really like to wear a gi again, to be honest. I miss discipline! And art!
