dS seekrit Santa - some thoughts

Jan 01, 2009 11:40

due South seekrit Santa let me show you my thoughts on it.

Okay let us first look at the fics (see that plural? Hee!) that were written for me.

First off there's The First Nine Lives of a Houseplant which I have discovered to my surprise (but I would be surprised whoever wrote it) was written by china_shop.

I have already babbled about how much I liked it here: http://aingeal8c.livejournal.com/532981.html#cutid1

And all that still applies.

I am still just over the moon I got F/V/E. I am really grateful fto china_shop for stepping down the F/V/E route for me. Thank you.

Comfort and Joy was by andeincascade.

I admit I kinda guessed the author of tis fic but that didn't mean I liked it any less. Hee. I recognised the style and I may possibly have heard this scenario mentioned a couple of months ago.

I was really pleased to find out my suspicions about the author were correct. I'm really chuffed that ande wrote F/V and that is for meeee! Really good stuff.

I wrote An Observation of Human Mating Behaviour for ifreet. I think no-one will be shocked by this fact. It is of course F/V/E (wheeeee OT3!) .

I have to admit I was very, very joyful to get my assignment because someone other than me actually wanted to see F/V/E written and I got to write my relatively new shiny threesome. So first reaction was great!

Then I got thinking. Along the lines of Oh dear I have no idea what ifreet likes and although they want F/V/E and are intrigued by it I have no idea far I can go with it and this could end up disappointing them.

As I usually do I went and stalked my recipient. Not just their seekrit santa letter but their entire journal to see if it would get me a better idea of what they liked and so on. And...it gave me some ideas. Not many though I have to say.

I decided pretty early on that I was going to keep it PG rated. I didn't know if ifreet would appreciate a big sex scene (although all my F/V/E and my WIPs up to this point had been NC-17) and it would be a challenge to concentrate on the banter part of the relationship.

Of course I then angst over maybe I should put sex in but ultimately decided against it.

The plot bunny was gifted to me by nakeisha. She actually came up with a really long nad interesting bunny I am still feeding. I took one aspect of it - the date part and expanded it to make that the plot.

I started writing it with a threeway POV. However it rpaidly became apparent it was confusing and not working. So I decided to ditch threeway POV which left me with a dilemma - what POV to use. After trying Ray and Elaine I settled on Diefenbaker which was an excellent choice in retrospect.

Of course having Dief tell the story confirmed no sex because well...you know. Also I had a bit of trouble as if they are on a date and Dief is with them they need to be somewhere dog friendly. It was at this point bakaknight came to the rescue finding a dog friendly outdoor restaurant, in Chicago, that had Italian food. Yay!

andeincascade was able to give me tips on what food they should be eating and I spent some time looking menus up. What fun.

I did all the dialogue first as that is how I write and then filled in the other bits. It was hard going and I did have a lot of memoments of oh this isn't may good and so forth. Luckily a bunch of sensible people talked me around.

I got it done before the deadline and the love leda_speaks beta0ed it with her usual aplomb. And I really appreciated her comments.

And that's it. I got it done, my recipient liked it. A few other folk seemed to like it.

All good.

In conclusion I'd like to thank the following people (in alphabetical order): andeincascade for support and reassurance that yes I could write it, bakaknight for support, prodding and research help, leda_speaks for her beta-ing, support and general leda-ness and nakeisha for plot bunny help, support and handholding.

thinky writerly thoughts, dsss
