Just Kidding Around - why I write Mpreg and kidfic
It's possible not a surprise for people to learn I am responsible for nearly every F/V Mpreg ever written and a significant propotion of the kidfic. These are the things that will send me to fanfic hell generally speaking so I thought Ild try and explain my wierd thought processes involved.
First off Mpreg. To most people it's the worst sort of fic you can ever write and it's guaranteed to have people think you shouldn't be writing fanfiction if that's the sort of thing you are going to do.
I do not write it because I think the boys need a baby to make their life complete. Nor out of some twisted esire to torture them through pregnancy. I do it quite simply because it amuses me. Yes I want to see Ray freak out whren Fraser lays an egg, or tells him he is pregnant. In fact that possibly why I have only done one story in which Ray is pregnant (which I need to change really because Fraser freaking out at finding out Ray is pregant would be very amusing). So yes. I did manage to try and make it semi-realistic in the ginger bunny but other than that it's pure unadulterated crack of Inuit fertility rituals and wierd Fraser biology.
I know it's not everyone's cup of tea though for different reasons. Personally I can't read some of the Mpreg out there, well I can but I need brain bleach afterward and possibly a bucket ('m looking at you detachable penis fic and you too aliens made me a woman fic not to mention you yucky demon human sacrifice to give a guy a womb fic oh and you Harry Potter rape fic all of you were yuck). So I can understand why people wouldn't want to read it.
I just try and keep mine light and cracky because I don't take it too seriously.
As for kidfic...
I don't write kidfic because Fraser and Ray really need children to make their lives complete. I do it because it's amusing to see Ray struggle with whiny toddlers. It's fun to see Fraser be worn down by the antics of a baby.
I try to write kids that aren't perfect. Kids that will burst into tears for no apparent reason, kids that will drive them up the wall. One of the problems with a lot of kidfic is that the kids end up too perfect. The best kidfic is that with kids who go through things kids go through - argue with their parents, upset people on purpose or accidentally. Not all the time, there's balance of course.
But yes that's why I like writing kidfic. It's all about seeing what effect kids have on Fraser and Ray and their relationship. There is also some canon base to all this too. I mean there are are a few kid orientated plots such as Free Willie, Chicago Holiday, ACAMAAB, The Promise. They've looked after kids together in canon with interesting results so giving them their own kids takes it one step further for me.
But again I know it's not for everyone ;-)
