You would think that a 25 year old adult woman would not be so easily amused by standing on a box and wearing a bit of cheap ribbon.
So, as posted previously my school had its first annual Grand Canyon State Feis, which was, for the most part, a success. We ran a little late, but when you have 1/3 more entries then expected for a one day feis, thats kinda inevitable.
We also did the same as the Tucson Tir Conaill feis, with the commemorative pins (for all participants) and the sashes and podium for championships awards. I got 3rd place in my champs (woohoo!) and got to stand on the boxes, and I got a sash with my trophy. Such fun!
The really exciting thing was that I got a 1st place medal for my softshoe. I've never gotten a first place in Open before. Ever!
John alas did not fare so well, he was kinda bummed with his results. But, his group was combined Novice/Prizewinner when he should have been in Novice.
We both also helped out with the feis quite a bit, which I really enjoyed. One of the judges even complimented me on how well I was lining kids up and running the competition (despite working on the middle stage with no space set aside to line kids up in).
I cant wait till next year.
On a future note: Mark your calendar for the weekend before Thanksgiving. The Western Regional Championships are being held here in AZ at the Arizona Grand Resort (near AZ mills mall). This is the World Qualifying competition for Irish Dance. By the time it returns to AZ, I most likely wont be competing any more. It would be really nice if alot of people came out to see me dance, as I'd love to have a cheering section seeing as its being held practically in my backyard. So, save the date, and come watch. please..... ?
