I've always maintained that rats are way smart, since I had Faunus, who was bright enough to be sneaky, and know when he was busted. Lots of dogs aren't that bright. These aren't quite the same (Faunus was a norway rat, these are African pouched rats), but they're being trained to
detect land mines. This is super cool; there are places where old wars keep
claiming victims, because land mines don't care whether a treaty has been signed, and the war is over.
Bomb sniffing dogs are expensive, and more difficult to handle. The rats are apparently more adaptable, and just want their bit of banana (or whatever). I'm pleased to see the rats getting a good rap, for once.
