Okay, so, you know the problems I was having with one of my back teeth back in November? The one that had broken off, gone rotten, and had to have a massive filling put in?
Well, it seems that I might actually have to have the bugger removed altogether.
Lately, I've been waking up during the odd morning with dull aches in that tooth, but they always faded away after a short while.
Yesterday morning, however, the pain returned, and it was much more intense. It woke me up at 5:00 am, and it didn't go away this time. It hurt even more when pressure of any kind was put on it, no matter how slight, so I could pretty much forget about brushing it. It only got worse as the morning wore on (though it was not nearly as bad as it was on my birthday), and, eventually, after I'd been at work for a little while, I decided enough was enough and called the dentist to book an emergency appointment. My boss dropped me off into town later in the day - I think the fact that he also has (severe) problems with his teeth helped him sympathise.
Once I was there, I was given an X-ray (first time I've ever had one), although the results didn't seem too clear, as I wasn't told in clear terms just what was wrong. Could be an infection, could be an abcess.
The dentist told me that, on my next appointment, he could either remove my filling, clean the tooth and give me a new filling, or he could pull it out completely. He reckoned that the latter might be best in the long run, as he thinks my tooth will just get worse. Although the thought of having my tooth pulled out scares me, I agree to an extent.
In the meantime, he's put me on a course of antibiotics.
My next appointment isn't until March, either, which I'm kind of pissed off about because I just want to get this over and done with. This tooth is driving me mad. I just hope the antibiotics do their job.
They seem to be having an effect so far - my tooth barely hurt at all last night, and today, although it has been having its moments (and right now, in fact >_<), it is a lot more bearable compared to yesterday - I told the office I didn't think I could manage the rest of my shift, as, after the dentist had been poking and prodding away at the offending tooth, the level of pain I was in was excruciating. I managed to get through my supermarket shift okay, though.
*hits self* Why didn't I get this checked out sooner when it first broke off? ARGH.
