Ugh, so cold

So, yesterday, our carbon monoxide detector alarm went off.

It was about 9:00 in the morning, it was blaring for about ten minutes, and I panicked. I also thought I could smell regular gas, but that could have been my imagination for all I know.

I called into work, saying I was going to be late, and then I called the emergency gas number. They gave me advice and sent someone round to check the boiler. When he arrived, he couldn't see any obvious problems, but he shut off the gas supply and stuck a "concern for safety" notice on the boiler and left. Apart from that, he was pretty patronising and not all that helpful.

All through the day, I kept trying to contact people who could help, but everyone I spoke to seemed to be completely clueless asshats who refused to listen to what I was saying. Some wankers even sent round the same bloke who checked the boiler, in spite of the fact that he lacked the abilities and equipment to check for carbon monoxide!

Eventually, I called the housing association (as the alarm is connected to the mains electricity, they should have been able to help), and they told me to contact my gas supplier. I did so, but after approximately an hour or more of being left on hold (this includes both fucking times I had to phone them) I was told that they couldn't do anything. So, I called the housing association back, explained my situation yet again (how these people ever got their jobs, I have no idea), and they said they'd send an engineer round to look inside the boiler.

Hours passed, until we got a call from the engineer - who said that his supervisor had told him that it was just a regular boiler check, and he lacked the equipment to check for carbon monoxide! So much for the housing association being competent! I was so fucking angry. My mother was there at the time, and took the phone off me. After ranting down the line to this guy, he said that he would call his supervisor back, as he was completely confused by how what they'd told him was not what we called up for.

By this point, my mother decided to drive me into work, over three hours late. When we arrived at the supermarket, we got another call from the engineer, who said that help would be at the house by Monday. Until then, we have to keep the boiler switched off at all costs.

So, naturally, it is really fucking cold right now.

I personally think that there is a problem with the alarm, rather than the boiler, but it is better to be safe rather than sorry.

Last night, it was so cold, I wore a hoodie over a tight long-sleeved top, three pairs of socks, a scarf, and a hat, and Euan wore a massive fleecy coat, two pairs of trousers and a hat, whilst we both snuggled under four fleecy blankets with two microwavable hot water bottles. I also went to sleep with a sweater over my pyjamas, and the same three pairs of socks.

Also, early this afternoon, I had to go to my mother's house to have a shower, as we are obviously without hot water. We don't have a shower at this house yet, and there is no fucking way that I'm gonna have a cold bath.

Sheesh.
