My theme for this fanmix is the entirety of District Four as I see it, in their ebbs of turbulent civil unrest between the 65TH and 75TH Hunger Games. It sort of turned out to be a largely Finnick/Annie or Finnick + Annie mix, just because they're the lens we have for District Four, but, yeah. I wanted to use songs that captured the feeling of watching children be chosen in the Reaping and viewing their battles in the Games from the safety of home, and their brokenness on return, as well as the final kind of coming-together of the District into their Uprisings during Catching Fire.
Hopefully, the mix should listen as an introduction, preparation for a Reaping, the Reaping, Finnick's Games, his broken return to (and from) the Capitol, Annie's Reaping, Annie's Games, her return in madness, the initial rumblings of uprising during the 74TH Victory Tour, and the final call to unrest after the Quarter Quell.
It totally may not, though. :|
The sea is everything. ... Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all sides. The sea is only the embodiment of a supernatural and wonderful existence. It is nothing but love and emotion; it is the Living Infinite.
Crawled Out of the Sea, Laura Marling
Oh, you crawled out of the sea
straight into my arms,
straight into my arms...
Time In, Open Till Midnight
To me, you came straight from the foam of the sea. And…
You know me, but not like I think you do.
You’re seeing colors -- but I’ll only see blue,
And in your eyes, when they contrast to the sky,
They get darker by the hour
But you’re brighter in that cloudy gray…
She came, made it rain and pour;
When the water rises and brings the storm,
Take my last breath.
Body: sink or swim.
Still, I’m trying to change time out to time…
Trying to change time out to time in
Don’t lose it!
Blue jays and cobra snakes --
Is there a cure for the venom that this Caesar makes?
Cleo, make me pharaoh stop trading these poison arrows…
You know me, but not like I think you do.
A Whiter Shade of Pale, Procol Harum
I was feeling kind of seasick,
But the crowd called out for more.
The room was humming harder,
As the ceiling flew away.
She said there is no reason,
And the truth is plain to see
That I wandered through my playing cards,
And would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast.
Beautiful Disaster, Kelly Clarkson
He drowns in his dreams --
An exquisite extreme I know --
He's as damned as he seems
And more heaven than a heart could hold.
And if I try to save him,
My whole world would cave in.
It just ain't right.
Lord, it just ain't right.
Oh, and I don't know,
I don't know what he's after.
But he's so beautiful;
He's such a beautiful disaster.
He's magic and myth,
As strong as what I believe.
A tragedy with
More damage than a soul should see.
Dancing on Water, Greg Raposo
Dressed up for a down occasion,
a black knight for a black situation --
And as I enter the room, it's so hard to breathe
looking at you.
Yet I can see you, dancing on water
swimming in a breeze,
run into the surf,
resting in peace.
You're never gone, but you left too soon.
Fools Like Me, Vanessa Carlton
Beware the danger: it lurks for those who get swept away --
The dreamers get punished most by truth
They say. It's all in the little ways
One reveals their love's gone away,
Love's gone away.
When my hand was in your hand,
My heart was pure.
Now I see a different man
Rewriting memories --
The dogs run down the beach
And all I'm left with
Is sand in my shoes,
Sand in my shoes.
And Run, He Is We
Kinda wish I had the courage --
A bit of bravery --
So tired of waiting on a man to come and save me.
Wishing I had everything,
Or something really.
Hard to admit it
But now I’m thinking freely.
I’m going to open my mind to all these
New found exciting possibilities.
I’m making all my own plans,
Throwing all my old ones away.
Gonna grow up, be someone,
Draw a map, find a path,
Take a breath
and run.
February Air, Lights
If you don't believe me --
If you don't like my plans --
You mustn't tell me
How I know your face like the back of my hand.
We walk the city,
I talk so you understand.
So won't you tell me
How I know this place like the back of my hand?
My arms get cold,
Please don't lose hold of me out there.
And I know you're near me.
I know you understand.
Say that you're with me...
Do you know my face like the back of your hand?
Radioactive, Kings of Leon
When the role is called up yonder,
I hope you see me there.
It's in the water
It's where you came from.
It's in the water
It's where you came from.
And the crowd begins to wonder --
And they cry to see your face --
It's in the water;
It's in the story.
It's where you came from.
The sons and daughters
In all their glory,
It's gonna shape them.
And when they clash
And come together,
And start rising...
Just drink the water
Where you came from.
The Rising, Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band
Can't see nothin' in front of me,
Can't see nothin' coming up behind.
I make my way through this darkness.
I can't feel nothing but this chain that binds me --
Lost track of how far I've gone,
How far I've gone, how high I've climbed.
On my back's a sixty pound stone,
On my shoulder a half mile of lime.
Come on up for the rising!
Com on up, lay your hands in mine;
Come on up for the rising!
Come on up for the rising tonight.
Left the house this morning --
Bells ringing filled the air.
Wearin' the cross of my calling,
On wheels of fire, I come rollin' down here.
Come on up for the rising!
Com on up, lay your hands in mine;
Come on up for the rising!
Come on up for the rising tonight.
